How do you survive Halloween at home and at the office???
I work part time at home so they are one and the same! No kids at home so no treat bags to tempt me, just the candy that I buy for the trick or treaters.
I won't open the bag of candy until just before the goblins start ringing the doorbell. We typically get so many kids that we run out of candy so leftover temptations usually isn't a problem. If there is any left over I can probably give it to my neighbor.
In the article I like the part about the all or nothing mentality--the analogy of "when you break an egg you clean it up, you don't break the other 11 eggs" is great!
I don't even buy my candy until the week before Halloween.
"buy a candy that isn't your favorite"
Sue, that's what I used to do too! I wouldn't eat an Almond Joy or Mounds if it was the only candy on earth lol so I used to buy just those. My dh likes them so if there were any leftovers he could have them, although he doesn't really have a sweet tooth so he wouldn't eat very many. Its getting hard to find those, especially on sale, so I stopped getting them. Now I buy a giant bag of assorted fun size chocolate bars at Costco. Its stashed in the closet in the guest room--out of sight, out of mind!
Throwing away any leftover candy would work. It might also be a powerful psychological tool. I usually only throw away food that's gone bad, so tossing the leftover candy could say that its not good enough for me to eat. Hmmm...
Interesting thought.....not sure if I could throw away chocolate though!
