When do you work out?

I always hear that the best time to work out is first thing in the morning.  I'm not really able to do that first thing; it's more like mid-morning for me.  When do you get your work out in?

Lately I haven't had much time to work out because of family issues.  My opinion....it isn't what time you do it....it's that you do it.  And if you don't have time to work out, try to get more exercise while you do your daily activities.....park further away from the entrance, take the stairs, walk while on the phone, Walk or march in place when commercials are on TV. Any activitiy is better than none.

Well, it depends on what your goal is.  I'd avoid working out too close to bedtime because it can interfere with sleep.

I read a study not too long ago about how early morning exercise actually improves your nighttime sleep patterns and can reduce your blood pressure more than if you workout later in the day.

A plus for afternoon/early evening:  Your body is warmer towards the middle of the day, so you'll have a more powerful workout.

I read another piece of research that showed that exercising in a fasted state (like right when you wake up) is best for weight loss because your body burns more fat for fuel instead of carbs from food.

Me?  I prefer morning workouts, but only after I've had a light breakfast.  I don't like working out on an empty stomach.

Other things to consider.......when are you most likely to exercise and feel good about it and will continue to do it.  Me I'm not a morning person, and my alarm goes off at 5:30 AM.  Am I more likely to feel good about getting up even earlier???  Probably not so afternoon is better for me.  Also being older I am more stiff in the AM.  By working out after I have used my muscles all day I have a better workout in the afternoon or evening.  I am most likely to get hurt trying to exericise on stiff muscles.....even with a warm up!
