So, I am going through sticker shock on how much Pre-K programs cost.

I think we need someone from NYC on the board, then I won't be the highest. Lana will go 2 full days and 2 half days, and it's about $400 a month. I'm sure you can understand how very excited we are for public school next year!

I am paying 600 a month but that is for before and after school care because I can't leave work at 12 every day. I felt like crying when I saw that. I cannot wait until she can go to Kindergarten and I don't have to pay.

There are free public Pre-K programs but they are only offered for limited hours (i.e. 9-11am or 1-3pm) and only at certain elemetary schools.

I do think who can pay for it and not pay for it does determine some of the programs here too.

You are so lucky to have that experience for your kids. My mom grew up in a small farming community about 30 minutes from where I live now. That is how their school was and still is really. I think it would be so neat to grow up in that. We moved from there right before I started school but even then if my Grandparents let us know they were having a bean supper or some other kind of fundraiser we'd drive out there to help out. That sense of "community" is a very rare & wonderful situation.

There are a lot of pre-k options here in our area. The elementary schools offer a pre-k program. Each school has 40 spots and they are given away by lottery. Caleb happened to be lucky enough to get one this year. It is an entire day 8am-3:30. He absolutely loves it! It is a wonderful school and I have yet to hear anything bad about it, his principal received Principal of the Year for the entire state of GA, so they must be doing something right....lol

The other pre-k programs range anywhere from $90 a week up to $500.

Conner is going to a church preschool and its 5 days a week from 8:45-11:15 and it's 139 a month, really...some of the prices you guys are talking about is to me insane...more than I pay for my mortagage payment per month, that to me is way to high..but if you have the money to spend...then I guess spend it there.
