Accountant/Financial Planner needed?

Hi everyone,
I am fairly certain that someone on this board has experience in this area, just can't recall who. I am trying to decide whether to pay off our mortgage and have a few questions. If anyone here could offer any advice- I'd really appreciate it. My bank provided me with a financial advisor after DH died, but I would like a more objective opinion.
Thanks much
Tammy :)

My first thought is to use USAA if you have them, but that might be who you're talking about! I've used their financial advisors on multiple occasions.

Thanks Chantail, I'll catch you on Facebook.
I am using USAA and I do love them- they have an entire Survivor dept so you only have to call one person to get everything done. I talked with their financial people and got good advice but since all of our insurance, money and mortgage are tied up with them..well, I'd just like another opinion.

*Note to all: PLEASE make sure EVERYTHING you have with your spouse is JOINT, if anything happens to either of you it will make things less stressful for the survivor. It has been such a hassle for me because our mortgage is only in DH's name, plus bank accts in his name only are still frozen and credit cards in his name (even though I am an authorized user/additional card) were immediately canceled. Pain in my butt.

The real bummer about the credit card is that we only had 1 and the bank canceled it, making it virtually impossible for me to buy airline tickets, rent a car and secure a hotel room for the kids and me to fly to DC for DH's burial!! Geesh, as if it isn't hard enough! As a courtesy, the bank issued me my own card but based on my income (=$0) with a $500 limit, like I can get 6 plane tickets for that! Luckily, there is a happy ending and a soldier support charity stepped in an got our tickets...
