When did you first take your child to the dentist? I still haven't taken my daughter and I think I am probably late on this.
For those of you who have taken your children (toddlers) to the dentist, do you have any advice?
I've already taken Jax to the dentist.
My DD's first dentist appt was at 14 months. She really liked him, and has seen him loads of times, but he just left the practice. She's not so comfortable with the new pedo who seems to constantly talk about princesses ("don't you want to have princess teeth?") Might work for some little girls but not for mine!
The only advice I have (and this only came up with her new dentist) is to be firm in making them go at your child's pace. Don't let them rush your kiddo or it will be a bad experience for them. I so wish I had said "she's not ready for that just yet. give her a minute"...would have made a world of difference to our visit on Monday. Instead she left the office crying and told me she was scared, which has never happened before.
ETA: and if s/he asks for something see if it's possible. My DD wanted the dentist to use the mirror when she checked her teeth, but the dentist didn't want to, so DD didn't want to open her mouth. She really looks forward to the mirror!
I also remember one of our BB's had to get a bunch of her teeth pulled (Tsaria was the mommy) and she was very firm about seeing the dentist and being very proactive.
I would talk to your dentist or call up a peditrician dentist and take the advice of all the ladies.
