Emergency Preparedness?

I was just wondering where we all are with Emergency Preparedness - for the home.

I ask for a few reasons. One, is that my parents watched the girls for us while we were out of town a few weekends ago and my dad said, "Now, if there's an earthquake - where's all the stuff we'll need." Um, I had pretty much nothing. And, what I did have was scattered about the house (flashlights under the sink, crank radio in a cabinet, no extra food to speak of, an extra case of water in the garage, important documents stashed in a closet).

Then, during this whole Swine flu thing, my mother called and said, "Well, do you have enough supplies for a few weeks should they decide to tell everyone to stay home like they did in 1918?"

Um, no.

I remedied that with a trip to Target where I picked up a big first aid kit, and all kinds of things that would be helpful in an emergency, be it an earthquake, or power outage, or what have you.

Are you prepared for emergencies? If so, what do you have?

I don't live in an earthquake zone, flood zone, or much of a hurricane zone. We do have tornadoes here. But a disaster kit would just be blown away in the case a tornado hit our house LOL LOL!! I would LOVE to have a pantry of non-perishable food but can't afford to stock it and wouldn't know what to buy. I do have flashlights and batteries. But that's about it.

We don't really have much, and what we have is scattered.

Wow!! Next to Steph, I'm a complete emergency preparedness loser!! I *think* I may have a couple flashlights somewhere. I have lots of candles but they are scattered. I always have bottled waters and canned goods but they aren't together somewhere. One plus (atleast if it were a local emeergency like fire) is that we do keep all our important documents in a fire box.
