That reminds me of the post I made a while back about Lana's school doing the "tooth chart" where every kid gets to record her tooth loss and fell important. I was told by some board members that it promotes exclusions and "hurt feelings" because some kids didn't lose teeth and feel "bad" about being excluded. I said "but their time will come" - still some people considered it "mean".
I am all about parenting with heart, but at some point you have to look at your kid and say "suck it up" and "deal with it". I'm pretty tired of the tiptoeing around for fear of hurt feelings...Part of growing up is developing thick(er) skin and leaning to deal with hurt.
So Valentine's day ban - pretty ridiculous. I think hurt feelings are inevitable in life and POSITIVE developmental tool since they teach a valuable lesson. There is no way a parent can shield a kid from every hurt in the world. And they will never develop thicker skin if they are not allowed to deal with life disappointments. I don't care about Valentine's way enough to care if they are allowed to send things in school or not, but I hate junk and most stuff that comes back is exactly that - junk that costs money and spoils teeth. So I'd rather they ban it because of that. Shrug...
