Me too - I'm looking for a reason to get a fancier one, without spending a stupid amount of money. Mine has an off, low, and high. That is it. I heard some have an inner vessel that can go in the oven or stove too. That would be good for browning...

Karen, could your beans possibly be old? Sometimes dry beans that are old will not cook up no matter how long you try.

We have a pretty basic one too. Four options, high at 4 or 6 hours and low at 8 or 10. It works for us, though I rarely ever use it.

I just bought the beans but you never know how long they are sitting on the shelf at the store. Anyway, this was the second bean incident in 3 weeks... I don't know.

They don't make crock pots like they used to. I would love to have one with delayed start. Mine is pretty basic. O do like that I can choose from 2 high and 2 low cooking times and then it warms after that period. My last one was either on high or low until you turned it. Now I can set it to 6 hours and then is warms until o turn it off. And a removable crock. But they may all be that way now.
