44 days since AF but BFN on HPT

After 3 m/c in 2002 we finally decided to try again last month. The first day of my last period was July 27 (ended 8/1). I decided to use a OPK this time around and it detected ovulation on 8/24 with peak at 8/25 which I thought was amazingly late. Since than I had slight one sided cramps but nothing mayor. my breast are a bit tender but they tend to be that way right before AF too. I took 3 HPT 9/1, 9/4 and 9/7 all negative.

I called my Ob/Gyn office Wednesday and the nurse told me to wait a few days than call for an appointment if AF did not start yet.

Not sure what I should do. 44 days since AF is a long time even for me (usually have my period every 30-31 days). I would not be to crushed if I am not pregnant since this was just our first month of trying, I just want to make sure everything is alright with me and if I am pg it would be so awesome and nice to know for sure.

What do you think I should do? Ask for a blood test or ask to see my doctor to find out what is going on? Any input is appreciated.

Hi Tina,

I was in a similar situation a few months ago. My cyles were always about 28 days...maybe 31 at the most. Then all of a sudden, here I was on day 40 and NOTHING. I called my doctors, went in for a blood test, it came back negative...just like all the other HPTs I took too. They didn't find anything physically wrong with me. At first my doctor thought maybe I had cyst, so she sent me for an US, but again, it didn't show anything. Then I got AF on day 43 (something like that). It just turned out to be an "off" month for me. Since then, I've gone back to 30 and 31 day cycles. Not really sure what was going on, might have been stress or something. DH and I aren't exactly trying yet...we're hoping to start in a couple of months, but you know it is when you're trying, it's all you can think about. And since I've been off bcp since January, and not using any other kind of bc, I think that the "idea" of wanting a baby just weighed heavily on my mind, maybe more so that month than anything.

Also, on a related note, you said according to the OPK, you O'd around the 24th or 25th, right? Well, usually from the time you O to when you get AF doens't really fluctuate much, so I would say count maybe 12-14 days from then, and that's probably when you can expect to get AF. The time of Oing for every woman is different, but the luteal phase (the time from O to AF) is almost always 12-15 days long.

Well, I hope that helps a little bit. Good luck and let us know how you're doing... :)

Thank you Robin, it did help.

I have never been more than 31 days but lets face it I am geting older (well, 32) and had a ton of stress between TTC and work.

That could definitely do it... ttc can be stressful. But I would definitely count say 12 or 14 days from when you O'd and if AF still hasn't arrived by then, then maybe try testing again. Good luck...and I hope that you get your BFP this month...
