someone told me this weekend that she heard on the news that aleve, advil, or other ibruprofen (sp) drugs may cause women to miscarry. has anyone else heard this, and is it true? i know that when you're pregnant you should take nothing but tylenol, but i never thought about before i found out i'm pregnant. i could be pregnant right now and have been taking generic ibruprofen. maybe i should take tylenol only?? just curious.

I don't know that ibuprofen causes m/c....I know it could cause defects in the developing fetus (which I guess could soon lead to m/c). Just to be safe if you are TTC or think you are pg....take tylenol exclusively.

Best Wishes!

I saw an article on this last week. It was regarding the class of pain relievers called "analgesics," of which ibuprofen and naproxen are members. These meds adversely affect implantation - that is, if an egg fertilizes, the drugs reduce the chance of a successful implantation. (That does not mean that you CAN'T implant while on the drugs, just might be affecting your chances.)

The only safe pain reliever is Tylenol, both while TTC and while pg.

Good luck to you!

thanks for your answer.

They say it increases the chance by so much, I read an article that gave the % but I don't know where I read it. But I'm not saying to do it anyways, I have always used Ibuprofen exclusively, because Tylenol(acetamenaphin) don't do a thing for me. I don't know if I was lucky or what, but I have always used Ibuprofin, before, during and after Pregnancy and had no problems. But like I said, i'm not saying you all should do it anyways. I am built to have babies...LOL It runs in my family, I honestly don't think there is one person in my family that was a planned child in the beginning. And we all carry them real well too. Well my mother did have one m/c...and she said if she would have had that boy...I wouldn't be here. I believe everybaby concieved and lost, or born, has a purpose, and what happens is meant to be no matter what we think about it. Anyways, i'm way off subject here....:-)

Here's my 2 cents...my gyn said absolutely do not even think about taking ibuprofen while TTC....my rheumatologist said taking it a couple times a week isn't going to hurt anything. I'm taking tylenol just to be on the safe side.

I am definitely not taking Ibuprofen. I miscarried in July and I was taking 800 mg Ibuprofen in the first few weeks because I didn't know I was pregnant and was having alot of cramping. I am thinking the strong dosage of Ibuprofen caused me to miscarry. Since I am TTC again, I am not taking anything but prenatal vitamins. The other day I took a tylenol for a headache and it did absolutely nothing, but I rather be safe than sorry.

Hey - don't feel so bad. We read all these scientific studies, but in the end it really only makes a small difference. Nature has its own plan; if it's meant to happen for you, it will happen. I took some Advil in my latest cycle too (I've never been a huge fan of Tylenol).

Good luck to you!

i've heard that anti-inflammitory drugs, like Asprin, cause a higher rate of M/C than others- the problem with Ibuprophen is a birth defect thing

anyway, stick to Tylenol for now, and you should be ok :D
