Well! The cough medicine I have at home says not to take it if you're pregnant, if you suspect you are and even if you're planning on it - to consult your doctor! This makes me think that it can be dangerous during pregnancy and also during the forming of the future egg.

Don't you think?

Cheers,

Erika.

They say taking Robitussin (plain, no letters after it) helps keep your CM thinned out. It has some medicine called Guafisen (sp?) that helps keep it thinned. They also say Green tea and V8 Splash helps (V8 due to the Vitamin A). Some people have gotten pregnant the first cycle with robitussin.

I'm personally trying the V8 splash. I figure it might help, and it couldn't hurt. Try reading the TTC boards for more info.

Yes, I've heard of it. Guaifenisen, the active ingredient in cough syrup, thins your mucus. That's why is makes it easier to cough/expel mucus from your chest and throat. It also thins your vaginal and cervical mucus. I've heard it recommended, but I don't know anyone personally that has done it. So, I don't know if it works, but it can't hurt. Just make sure you get cough syrup that only has guaifenisen. You don't want to take any unnecessary drugs.

I have tried guifenisen and it DOES produce more eggwhite mucus, and it seems to last longer. Just take it around your ovulation time, then stop taking it; then there will be no risk to a developing fetus. I have also heard that taking aspirin a day somehow helps conception - a nurse I work with swears by this. She has troubles conceiving, and tried aspirin and conceived right away with both babies. Not sure how this works, maybe increases blood flow to the uterine lining?
