causes false positives? I have a 2 1/2 mo old dd & at 3 1/2 weeks pp (long story short, I thought I was dreaming) had sex. He pulled out, but it's still possible. My dr didn't ask at my pp ck up & I didn't tell... I just feel like it's a possibility & want to ease my mind. Any info or links would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I am pretty new to the board and not fully understanding all the acronyms... but I was on Depo for 5 years so maybe I can help. Are you saying that you got a positive HPT and are wondering if it was because of the Depo?? (If I'm misunderstanding completely...my apologies.)

Sorry! I haven't tested because I'm worried that it's a waste of money. I'm still bf my dd & my milk supply is down, I'm not losing the weight (this was #3, though), & I'm having a couple of other symptoms.

Thanks again,

It is my understanding that Depo would NOT cause false positives. I'm trying to piece together some of your info. It sounds like you are on Depo after the birth of your baby and you're experiencing some pg symptoms AND because you had sex, you are wondering if you are indeed pg. Do I have that right?

IF I have that right, I have a few thoughts I can share... If you have had a Depo Provera shot, you are likely not pregnant -- 99.9% effective. Everyone I have ever talked to while on Depo hasn't gotten pregnant and my husband and I would talk about it frequently because he's in the medical field. That being said, Depo CAN absolutely wreak havoc with your hormones and that is what you might be experiencing. .

When I came off the shot, I SWORE I was pregnant because I had EVERY symptom possible . The Dr told me it was highly unlikely, but humored me and had me do a blood test to ease my mind. It was -.

I hope I am helping...

You are correct about me being on depo. The problem is that we had unprotected sex before I got my shot. My dr didn't ask about it & honestly I didn't think about it at the time...

HTH a little more & thanks again,

I would worry unless you had your period restart at that point already. Mine came back at 6wks pp which was considered to be very early. But if you really are worried, a HPT should give you accurate enough results at this point. Be more careful! LOL

If you were like me and did not get your shot until your pp checkup, then it is a possibility. I don't know if you have ever had depo before but let me fill you in on a few things. To answer your question, in my experience, depo has not caused any false positives. I went on depo after the birth of my son and was on it for 2 1/2 years. I have been off it for one year. While I was on it, it was great. Once I stopped it, I had pg symptoms and had blood tests and took hpt's all the time. I have finally gotten af back after a year of stopping the shot but it's not regular and we are ttc #2 but it's not working yet. depo does wreak a lot of havok on your hormones. My advice to you is to research the depo thoroughly before you get anymore shots and if you plan on having anymore kids in the next few years, switch to another form of birth control. You can check out the TTC after depo provera message board on parentsoup. They will give you a lot of information if you don't already know about it. I would say take a test and find out for sure. Good luck to you!
