Blood test?

I'm new here and am wondering if any of you know how early you can test w/ a blood test. If they test your blood and there's ANY sign of the preggo hormone, it would be considered postitive, right?

Thanks for your help!

I got a faint BFP at 8DPO so I went right in that day for a blood test which came back positive. I'm pretty sure the tests are a "level" of something and if its over a certain number, they consider you positive. I bet if you searched the Internet about pg blood tests, you can find the answer to that. Good luck!!

Hi there, not sure I have an answer to your question, cuz I'm sort of wondering the same thing. I was actually scheduled for a blood test yesterday, but I cancelled the appt. I was too nervous that it was going to be waaaay too early. I'm not even late or anything. I just was feeling really really nausious, tired, peeing alot, crampy, sore bbs and all the other "fun" stuff last week, so I thought maybe I am. But AF isn't due until either as early as today, or as late as Friday. I just figured I'd wait the week and see if anything shows or not, then reschedule another blood test...
Let me know if you get any other info about the blood tests, I'm curious too!
Good luck!!

Robin, A blood test can pick us Hsg (?) as soon as your body starts producing it which would be very soon after implantation. So, if AF is due on Friday at the very latest, you'll definately get a BFP today if you're pg I'd think. If you're patient enough to wait it out, then good for you!!

Yeah, to be honest, I'm so confused as to what I think. The reason I originallly made the appt was because DH was getting nervous that I was getting stressed out because I was feeling soooo lousy last week.
Well then as of Sunday night, the night before my appt, I felt alot better, no more nausea, etc. So I just figured that maybe all that was just from Oing late. And I was expecting to maybe get AF late....NOW, today, when I went to the bathroom, there was what I swear was ewcm on the tp, and so I don't know what the heck to think. Am I Oing now?? Ugh! Which means if I am, I could just now be pg, because DH and I BD last night without him pulling out (that's been our bc for the last 7 months) because I thought I was past my O date. I mean I'll be thrilled if that's the case, and if I did (or am) Oing late, it just means that I wasn't pg before, and that I could still be now, but now I'll have to wait even longer to either get AF, or implant or anything... :( the waiting is really stressing me out.

I think if AF doesn't show by Friday, I'm gonna call for another blood test for Monday.

Robin, I really had no clue about when I O'd until I started using OPK's and temping. I mean, if I would have gone by when I thought I O'd each month, I'd BD on cd14 and then swear I had a late AF each month! It would have been horrible! :) So I read Taking Charge of Your Fertility and started temping and using OPK's so then I knew exactly when I was about to and when I had already O'd. I know you're not really in the TTC phase, right?, so maybe this is too much for you, but I did start doing all that stuff about 4 months before we were going to TTC and it was the best thing I ever did. When it came time, I knew exactly when I O'd, and I got my BFP last week, our first try! It might just help to put your mind at ease each month. Good luck.

That really helps... thank you so much. I think I might start using them. When I went off bcp back in january, I tried temping, but that was getting to be too much. I don't wake up anywhere near the same time every day, and the weekends are even worse. I do pay attention to my CM though, so I can usually tell when in and around when I've O'd (or at least when I should be fertile), but I think maybe using the OPK's might be more helpful. Maybe I'll even give temping another shot... I mean we'll probably be TTC sometime in the near future, within the year I hope.
So, we'll see....thanks so much for your feedback!

HI,

Blood tests measure HCG levels in your body. If they come back above 5 they consider you positive. However, 5 is extremely low and would be VERY early on. The important thing is that the levels double every 48 hours so it's really taking two tests two days apart that let you know whether you're pg is progressing.

And, I just wanted to let you know that when I got my BFP my CM looked like fertile CM. I could've sworn it was EWCM and ended up with a BFP. That of course was the first of many interesting types of new discharge, but that could be what you're seeing!

Good luck,

Amanda

Amanda,

The "interesting types of new discharge" that you speak of, (may be too personal but) did any of it just sorta hang there after urinating? Then when you wipe you could feel it dangling? I realize that's a horrible question to ask someone you don't even know, but this had never happened to me until the last couple of days, it stopped now though. But I just can't bring myself to ask anyone I know.

No worries. I wish I had someone to ask these questions to when I had them! I seriously have been tested three times in the 24 weeks of my pg for infections because I've thought the discharge was too weird and abnormal. Always came back fine though so I've determined that pg can just do weird things to your body and I'm trying to just go with it!

Yes there is discharge that just sort of hangs there and doesn't fall into the toilet. I can honestly say that my discharge has varied almost weekly during pg and I've seen a lot of everything. But when I first got my BFP it was that type of discharge that I noticed the most. Of course I still see it cyclicly with everything else. Oh the joys!

Anyways, I hope that I helped a bit and feel free to ask me any questions you may have because I know how weird it can be and unsettling. It's like you have to learn your body all over again!
