I was just wondering if anybody knew if smoking marijuana can affect your period. AF was due sept. 28th and blood test has come back negative. I smoked once before I was due and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with me missing it.

I would highly doubt it. I have never knew anyone missing or having off cycles from this. If you had any sex at all, your at risk for pregnancy. I would test to be sure of this. There is no method of any kind that can be 100% to prevent pregnancy.

Rachel,

I certainly hope you aren't trying to conceive and smoking pot at the same time.

No, I tried it once and hated it. I will never do it again. We weren't ttc at the time, so I didn't think much of it, but a friend suggested today that maybe that was why I hadn't had my period. Anyway, I definitely want to have a baby, and we were having unprotected sex all last month and this month I though I was pregnant cause I never got my period but the blood test monday came back negative. I still don't have my period and this has me concerned. I've never been late or missed one since I started, so I'm grasping here. If anyone can give me any suggestions that would be great.

Well there isn't much info on it, but it don't have that much effect on us. What makes researching marijuana use so hard, is that most that use it regular, or semi-regular usually are also using alcohol and any number of other drugs. Just to make you feel better what little studies have been done, show that the most it may cause is low birth weight, which is the same as cigarette smoking. But its also known to have many chemicals, some of which are still not even identified. So though I would doubt this to be your cause, I suppose that if you don't smoke cigarettes or are exposed to anything else that affects you system, that maybe it could. Maybe the sudden shock of all them chemicals got to your otherwise very "clean" system. I would not give up your hope though. Some people get BFP even after a few weeks of BFN...so Good Luck, and hopefully you will have a little one on the way very soon.

I actually did a little research on the affects MJ on a pregnancy b/c i have a friend that is doing it, and it was p*ssing me off I wanted to prove to her that she was causing that poor baby harm and all i could find on the subject was that mother that smoke mj have a higher chance of haveing placnta previa, and when the bnaby's are born they basically "spaced out" and the have really high pitchh cry's, but as for the long term affects they hadnt researched that far yet. I told my friend that if i ever catch her smoking up after that baby is born around that baby I will call child protection services on her.

I understand that very little research has been done on this topic, but from experience. I would highly recommend to anyone that does smoke weed to stop. My aunt was/is still a big marijuana smoker and I have a 20 something year old cousin that is so messed up he borders autism. You can tell just by having a five minute conversation with him that he is slow, and almost child like. Though no dr. can tell you what is wrong with him. He will actually play with my 3 year old (playing chase most of the time) and he is more into it than her. Now he does have a job and lives on his own, but something is wrong with him. The rest of the family believes strongly that its b/c of the pot smoking. Obviously not proven, but it does make sense. All the dr. has to say is we have no term for what is wrong with him. And the his family acts like nothing is wrong with him. If caffeine can mess a baby up than I could only imagine what marijuana could do.

Just my two cents

Lisa
