do hpt's work if you're too far along?

my cycle has always been irregular and I'll go months without a period... my last one was in june. I took 4 hpts in august and the last one had a very faint line... I thought that it was the test screwing up, but I've been having a lot of symptoms... been exhausted, sleep a lot; very tender breasts; nausea; have to pee every 1-2 hours but used to go a 10-hr work day w/out going to the bathroom; very frequent headaches; suddenly hate the smell of coffee and cigarette smoke, but choose to eat peanut butter, which I've always hated; and now my bras are starting to feel uncomfortably small and the waists on pants that I bought in mid-september are too small, but there isn't much actual fat on my belly, and I haven't gained weight on my arms or legs.

I took 2 more hpts last week and they were both bfn... I've heard that when you're a few months pg the tests stop working because your body stops producing enough hCG to get a + result. Does anyone know if that's what might be happening? Anyone who has a similar experience, PLEASE HELP!

I would suggest going to get a blood test done. Reason being that once you are further along in your pregnancy it's true you may not get your BFP. Blood is the only way to go now. Make an appointment and see what's going on.

i agree that you should get a blood test....but what i think you need to do more is see a doctor. because if you're having all those symptoms and are starting to "show" (if you will), they should be able to tell whether or not you're preg. through an exam. i always try to avoid needles....i wasn't able to escape them today :( but besides that, if you're not pregnant, there's probably something else going on. for example, i know a girl that looked like she was about 7 months pregnant for an awfully long time. i'm not sure how or why she hadn't gone to the doctor before that, but when she finally did, it turned out that she had a cyst (it seems that i remember people saying that....but i was like 12....it might have been a benign tumor) that was about the size of a basketball and weighed about 40 lbs. not that i'm trying to scare you, but if you turned out to have something like that growing in you rather than a baby, wouldn't you rather know and deal with it now? good luck, i hope it turns out to be baby!
