What is the "policy" on drinking while ttc? My husband & I were drinking alot last week and the week prior (during O) because of weddings, a vacation and other parties - I didn't abstain. If I find out next Fri (AF due) that I'm pregnant I will not drink (nor will I this week), I just have a guilty conscious for this party drinking -- normally, I'm a 2 glass of wine a week person.

From what I understand, I think you will be perfectly ok... and so would a baby if one was conceived. I know so many women who didn't find out they were pregnant until almost 12 weeks- and were so worried that they had done something to hurt the baby! All turned out well in the end.

My general rule of thumb is to do everything in moderation. I try to be as healthy as I can be- not only to conceive, but also for my own physical, emotional, and spiritual health. And sometimes that means that I have a few glasses of wine (and really occasionally, even more!- LOL) I'm trying to live a life. And while I am really really wanting to conceive, I also have to LIVE in the process of doing that.

So my advice is to try to be as healthy as you possibly can... but do things that feel natural to you. If that means an occasional french fry or cappucino... or even a glass of wine.. then go for it. But the rest of the time, eat dark green veggies and lots of protein! Again... just my two cents. No expert here.

Don't worry so much.

There is a reason that women find out they are pg when there AF is due. I think the effects of what you do prior to expected AF are very minimal. The time for the egg to be fertilized and then float down for implantation can take as long as your entire luteal phase (the time from O to AF). Your fetus will not get anything from you until it implants (around the time AF is due).

Just do everything in moderation and know that whatever you eat or drink could be going to feed another life.

You'll be just fine.

Take Care!

I would have to say that I think everything is ok right now but I did want to post this from the national fetal alcohol syndrome organization's website. I would not stress yourself out about it this early in the stages but I wanted others to be aware of the risks also.

What if I am pregnant and have been drinking?

If you consumed alcohol before you knew you were pregnant, stop drinking now. Abstaining from alcohol for the remainder of your pregnancy can have a beneficial effect even on functions that might have been affected by earlier drinking. The sooner you stop drinking, the better the chance of having a healthy baby. You could be pregnant and not know it. So if you are trying to get pregnant or are sexually active and not using contraception, don’t drink alcohol.

Just a quote from their site. Thought it might be helpful to all
