Hi. I've tried to read some messages to get answers to my questions, but the acronyms confuse me a lot. Here's my story. My wife has taken 3 home pregnancy tests now, all of which say positive. It is almost 9 weeks since her last LMP, her breasts are swollen, she is gassy, needs more sleep, etc., etc. She had a blood test last week at the doctor's however that says she is not pregnant. What do you think girls? This poor guy need some advice. Thanks in advance. Paul

Paul,

I would say believe your HPTs. My blood tests were both negative too with my DS and DD.

So - go back to the doctor and just take the urine test there - it will be positive as well and you can start your OB care. If this doctor refuses - I would switch doctors.

Call an OB and book your first appt. Tell them that you've had 3 positive HPTs and need to schedule your first OB appt. They will take you right in - promise!!!

WISHING you all the best for a happy & healthy 9 months! Well - 8 months now!

The big problem now is to try and convince her to go back and see the doctor for another test. She was kinda deflated the first time, and now she is a little gun shy (so she won't be even more disappointed). We'll see what we can do.

Doctors can be dumb. Mine told me I wasn't pregnant with my now 2 yr old daughter too. I (and the nurse) CLEARLY saw the pink line, but he swore it wasn't there. HPMH.

Well there is a hormone that your body makes in pregnancy only, and thats what them home tests are looking for. If they come up positive, especially 3 of them, she is deffinatly pregnant. Who knows what was whith the blood test. Sometimes you have to be pushy with doctors, tell them what you want. She needs a urine test, and that should be positive, and if it happens to not somehow, then demand answers to why she is feeling the way she is, and hasn't had a period in 9 weeks. I have learned the hard way, that doctors sometimes will ignore what you have to say, and go on what they think, and they are wrong a lot of the time.

Well, she went for one more test today (on my urging)down at the doctor's office. The results should be in by tomorrow around lunch time. I am leaving to go on a business trip early tomorrow morning, so I will have to call home for the results. I'll keep ya posted and thanks for all of your advice and support.

Hello all. Sorry for taking so long to get back on this, but I had to try and earn a living for that baby. Yup, that's right....a baby. Turns out (contrary to my wife's insistence and aprehention), that the initial blood test was indeed incorrect. She is very much pregnany and we couldn't be happier. Just goes to show you....if you are unhappy with an initial diagnosis (with regard to pregnancy or any other health issue) don't ever be afraid to have a test run again or to consult a different physician. Thanks again for helping me work through a tough week and a half.

Just to let you know how wrong they were. The second Quantatative Beta hCG test they did came back at 5000 (the first test was only Qualatative). That was only 5 days after the first negative.
