fetal pole

I am entering my 6th week. At 5 weeks my doctor ordered an internal sonogram. It detected the sac but stated that it did need see a fetal pole or a crown rump what does this mean???

The fetal pole is the fetus (or embryo at that early of a stage). At five weeks it is not uncommom not to see the fetus, a follow up ultrasound or sonogram will usually locate it. If a fetal pole cannot be seen later in the pregnancy then it is called a blighted ovum - where the sack and or placenta forms but the fetus fails to form inside the sack, this is usually followed by a miscarriage (or D&C if necessary). I wouldn't worry about it this early b/c at your next sonogram they will probably locate the fetal pole and maybe even a heartbeat! Good Luck and try to relax, your just getting started.
