HELP!!!!!

I can't believe this just happened. We have been TTC for a while but I've been very irregular with my periods, so I never know if I'm late or not. Anyway, I felt crampy yesterday and took a pregnancy test that came back positive. We were so excited. I feel pregnant - nauseous, tired, the whole bit. Here's the catch - we had a big birthday celebration for my husband tonight and he made a big announcement to everyone we know that we were pregnant. Then I took another test tonight just to be sure that came back NEGATIVE!!!! I don't know what to do. Could I pregnant? Could there be a mistake with the first test. The first test was an early one (you can take it 3 days before your missed period) and the second was a regular one that you take the day you miss your period. I did drink a lot of water tonight and I took it when I came home, so maybe my urine was diluted??? Please, someone respond with your thoughts as soon as you can - I'm going crazy!!!! Aren't false negatives more common than false positives????

I would say your pregnant, most likely. It is true that false neg. are more common, in fact false positives are rare, when they are a dark positive. It may still be early, and that is why that test showed and not the other...and as you said you did drink a lot. All you could do is retest. But I think it would make more sense to save that money, and just go to the doctors.

To my understanding it is almost impossible to have a false positive, I think the early HP tests are more sensitive and they also say the hormone level is more apparent in your urine in the morning before drinking anything. I think it was probably diluted and the test may not have been sensitive enough for this early on. Try taking another one in the morning. Good Luck.

Thank you so much for your replies. I knew it was such a mistake to tell people so early, but everyone knows we've been trying and we were just so excited. I'll test again this morning. Thanks again!

Once you find out I find it very hard to contain yourself. You just want to tell the world. With our first ds I found out I was pg at 6 weeks (my first test at 5 weeks came back negative). I told my dh that I wanted to wait to tell people until I went to the doctors and they confirmed it. That was on a Friday and my appointment was Monday. We told immediate family on Sunday because we couldn't wait. It's so hard to do. I don't know how people wait 12 weeks. We have since started ttc#2. We started last month, got pg, but had a m/c. I told a few close friends about it just because I needed the support but now it makes me wonder how soon we'll tell if I get pg again. I'll want to wait, but again, it's soooo hard!

Anyway, I think you pregnant. False positives are very, very rare. You're first test was sensitive and your second one wasn't. Also, drinking can dilute it. This is going to be hard, but I would get a regular test and wait a few days. That way if you get a BFP on a regular test, then you know that your levels are increasing. That, or go to the doctor and do a blood test. You should have no problem considering you got conflicting results.

Good Luck

Susan
