I am new to this board and ivillage. Here is my quick story, which I am sure everyone has heard before. I went off the pill in June after being on it for about 8 years. My husband and I were planning on trying in a year and I wanted to get my body prepared with vitamins and folic acid.
Well, last week we had a couple of "spontaneous" moments, and after looking through my dates and using several ovulation kits, I found out I was indeed ovulating. Of course we took this as a major sign and have been very impatient (and excited!) through out the entire week.
Now, when should I test? I see all different dates--wait till I expect my period, wait 14 days, etc. The problem is, my cycle has been so off, I am not sure when I would be getting my period--the last one took 33 days to come.
Help anyone!?!?!

Most luteal phases are about 14days from the time of Ovulation. In your case even though you don't really know how steady your cycles are or what the case may be I would wait until at least 18-20dpo. I myself had crazy cycles after being on the pill for about 10 years and it took me 8 months to get pregnant and I found out testing at 16dpo but was supposed to wait until 18dpo so when I was testing I was under the impression that it wouldn't give me a positive even if I was, but it did in my case.
