Okay, I have not psoted on this board for a while now. DH and I were not actively trying but were not super cautious either. Our method of contraception was using the monthly cycle and ovulation days. We would just abstain on those days. Sorry for TMI. Well my AF was five days late and I tested this morning and I got 2 POSITIVE TESTS! So needless to say, I am very very happy but kind of in shock. How was it possible? And not to mention, I have attended so many parties in the past 3 weeks, I have been drinking at least 3-4 glasses of wine every couple of days! I had a party on sunday and had about 4 glasses of wine! And yesterday (Tuesday) i had about 3! So now I am very worried. I have a few questions...Will anyone who has gotten advice from their obgyn please help me
1. Si it really possible? Could the conception have taken place in the uterus and not in the fallopian tubes (coz as per my calculations, it just does not add up.
2. Secndly, is it harmful that I have been drinking so much. THe nervouse system is formed in the first 21 days and I am 4 weeks pregnant right now!

Please help!!

Hi,

It is definitely possible to be preggo. My guess is that one sperm just perservered longer than expected. Based on that, I would predict girl! hehe.

As for the drinking, I was in the same boat. It was only my 2nd cycle off BCP and we had been drinking quite a bit. I was concerned so I talked to my doc and she told me not to worry at all. The implantation happens 7-10 DPO so it was newly implanted. And, no organ development starts until about the 5th week. So since the first two weeks are pre-ovulation, that means about 3 weeks post conception. As long as you stop now you're fine. The only damage the alcohol does in the VERY early stages, such as you are, is inhibit implantation thus causing early miscarriage, but since you've got a + HPT you're just fine!

Good luck,

Amanda

Hi,
I am not promising everything will be ok, because no one can gurantee that. But i didn't find out i was pregnant untill i was 8 weeks pregnant and like you i had been drinking some and i was smoking at the time!! Not only to mention that I was on perscription medicine for bronchitis and had 2 x-rays all of which can harm a baby! I was so nervous that i had hurt my baby somehow not knowing about it. But I am now 5 months and the baby is perfectly healthy so far. She has a very strong heartrate and is growing at the normal rate. So hopefully everything works out as well for you!!
Good luck with everything!
Melanie
