Implantation Bleeding or Something Else?

To cut to the chase... 8 days ago, dh and I had unprotected sex. Five days after the deed, I started bleeding very lightly (and it just stopped this morning). My super-excited dh had me take a pg test (one of the early detection ones) last night. It's negative. Did we test too soon or is this result accurate?

If this is something other than pg, then is spotting ever normal between periods? I've never experienced this before. (And if it helps any, this spotting came on about 2 weeks after my period.) I looked this phenomena up a little online and it looks one of the causes could be cancer. Really? o.O

If it was indeed implantation bleeding, you most likely tested too early for an accurate result. Your body doesn't start to make hcg until after implantation. Hcg doubles about every 2-3 days and starts really low at first. HPTs require a certain level of hcg to come up with a positive result. I'd retest in a few days.

When I got pregnant with my second DS, I tested at 8DPO and got a negative test, then when I tested at 10DPO, it was a very, very faint positive. I called the doctor and went it for a blood test that same day and they called with the results, they said my hcg was 46 at that time. So, it's definitely possible that you just tested too early. Good luck!!

Thanks for explaining things! I'll test again in a week. We're hoping it's a pg. :)

Well, I tested again yesterday and it was still negative. Guess I'm not pg. :( Now I'm left wondering why I had that weird spotting. Thanks again for your help, Stacey.

Sorry about the BFN. Have you been under any new stress lately or trying a new diet/exercise regimen? Sometimes stress, diet, exercise, illness, and other things can have an affect on out cycles. If it happens again for this next cycle, you might want to talk to your doctor just to see what's going on because irregular cycles can have a big impact on trying to conceive. Good luck!

No new stressors. Same old diet and exercise regime. Haven't been sick in months. So weird because I am experiencing breast discomfort, like when I was in the process of weaning my kids off breast milk. That achy, need-to-milk sensation. I looked on the internet for more info and it looks like it could be a symptom of menopause. I feel too young to be going through that stage of life, but at 35 I guess it's reasonable.

Did anyone in your family go through menopause early? If you want to know for sure if it could be peri-menopausal symptoms, you could go to the doctor and ask them to check your hormone levels. Good luck!

Celest: I'm 6 days late & was spotting today (but it only lasted a few hours). I'm in the same boat as you right now & I go on fri. To my dr. cause I'm concerned cause test keep on coming back neg. For me as well. (Ive been reg. Until now. So we r hoping that I am cause we were told that we can't get pg.) so my advice is go to the dr. They can do so much where we can not do what they do. & gl
