Level 2 ultrasound

Hi,

I am just back from my 22 week ultrasound. Everything looked good for the most part but the doctor did recommend that I have a level 2 ultrasound performed as the brain ventricle size seems to be bigger than normal and there may be a problem with one of the kidneys. Naturally I am pretty concerned as I have no idea if all is ok with my baby. I've had most bloodwork done including an AFP test which came back normal. The doctor said that the range was in the upper limits of normal but wanted to send me for a level 2 US just to make sure. He said it is pretty common in pregnancies. If any of you have gone through something similar please let me know as it would ease my mind just a little if I knew a little more about the conditions.
Thank You!

Try not to freak out. I understand how stressful it can be to have the fear of something being wrong and you can't do anything about it. So number One. There may be nothing wrong and they need to just get a better picture to varify that. As far as the kidney. Even if your baby only has one working kidney it's ok. My neice only has one kidney and she is doing fine, the main issue was her heart. She did indeed need heart surgery two days after birth because of she had transpostion of the great arteries. If they didn't find this out before she was born she would of for sure with out a doubt died at birth. So in the middle of all this fear just remember is better to find out now if there are any problems so they can be address asap after birth. Good luck and your in my thoughts. Tracy U
