Morning after pill failure?!

So my DH and I have two beautiful boys, 32months and 3months old. We definitely want another but not quite yet! A bit later on when we are in a better financial position and DS2 is a bit older.

After having DS2 in April I am booked to have a coil fitted on the 18th July and we have been using condoms as contraception.

Unfortunately though just over two weeks ago we had an accident and the condom split. I went straight to the GP and took the morning after pill about 12 hours later.

To our shock, literally 6 days later, we found ourselves in the same position. Condom had split again and I was back at the GP. Needless to say I got a talking down from the nurse (but let's remind ourselves we are responsible adults not drunken 16 year olds using no protection whatsoever!) The condoms were well within use by date and were put on correctly so we were stunned this happened twice.

So to sum up, I've taken two morning after pills within a 7 day period. The last was 4 days ago but even since taking the first i've been completely paranoid that it hasn't worked. I've only had one period since giving birth which was all over the place bit I think I may have ovulated around the time of the first accident. I had sharp shooting pains on Weds and am now feeling a tad queasy and suffering lower backache and mild cramps. No idea when to expect my next period after taking MAP so my head's in a bit of a muddle!!

How effective should the MAP be and does anyone know if there are any reasons to be more concerned with taking it twice in a week?!

An unplanned baby certainly wouldn't be unwanted it would just be bad timing!

Confused! Thanks for reading this far, I'm sorry it's so longwinded.

Sorry you are going through this right now. As far as I know, it's rare for the MAP to fail. Taking two in a short period could definitely throw your hormones out of whack and through your periods off their normal routine. I hope everything works out and you get the coil placed without any problems.

I think chances are you are not pregnant.
