Okay, my AF has still not arrived. My LMP was 2/14 and normal. Me an my bf use w/d method. The last time I took an HPT was Sunday night and it was negative. I am around 20DPO (or so I thought). I called my doctor yesterday and spoke with the advice nurse who not so tactfully told me that my chart shows a history of PCOS and that pregnancy is unlikely. I told her that in the past seven months I've not had a cycle longer than 31 days. Today is CD35, although I was expecting AF a week ago. I do not chart, but I keep track of my CM, and it was fertile around CD12-14. For the past eight days, I've had cramping and bloating like AF was coming, but she still has not.
The nurse did not ask me if I've had any symptoms of pg and simply said that if AF has not started in two weeks that they will give me something to induce a cycle when I come in for a procedure. Of course they will do a urine test in the office before they do the procedure, as it requires the doctor to look at my cervix. The nurse kind of blew off the whole possibility that I could be PG. So now what? I was thinking of calling my general practitioner's office and asking for a blood test, but I don't want to be too hasty or paranoid. I've read up on PCOS and everything pretty much says it is difficult to get pg with it, but I've been pretty regular for the past few months and ovulating. What should I do? I have on HPT left, and I guess I was going to wait about a week or so to use it again, as I've read that there are a lot of women who don't test positive until after 6 weeks or so.
I'm starting to think that I'm not pg, but a lot of people said I'm giving the nurse too much credit. I could just wait two weeks and see. What would you do?

Hi missnia21 -
Yeah, you're giving that nurse too much credit. Pregnancy is not unlikely if you have PCOS; it just requires a little more assistance. If you have a history of PCOS, then I'm sure that you know of the hormonal issues associated w/ it. However, if you are certain that you ovulated this month and its been 20 days since then, that sounds very promising for pregnancy. (20 days is too long for a healthy LP.) PCOS can be managed just by simply managing/controlling your weight and diet. Some cases are more severe and may require fertility meds if a woman is TTC. I strongly advise you to take a hpt w/ fmu. There are plenty more where your 1 came from. The $ Tree and Walmart have them for $1-3. You need to find out ASAP so that you can begin your prenatal vitamins and Dr visits. The urine test at the Dr's office is no better than a generic brand from Walmart. GL!
Hello,
The nurse should not be diagnosing you with PCOS without bloodwork AND an Ultrasound.
TTC to conceive #1 officially since 2001. Dh had Varicocele surgery 2005 and has low sperm count. Dh tried Clomid..it didnt really help, HSG in 1999 and 2005, Charting since Jan 2006, <
Thank you both for responding. I had so much running through my mind, let me go back and say that two years ago my doctors did the hormone blood work, glucose, and an ultrasound. My glucose was normal. My hormone levels were all within normal range, except something was at a higher end of the spectrum. Also, my ultrasound showed many smalled cysts on my ovary. I guess I was supposed to take that to mean I had PCOS, but I was 21 years old at the time and just trying to figure out why I didn't have a cycle every month. All my doctor told me back then was that they could give me provera to induce my cycles, which I refused because I wanted to see if they would come on their own, and they did. They were actually coming very regularly. I have been monitoring my cervical fluid and that's why I felt like I'd been ovulating all these months. However, I guess I was wrong.
Anyway, with my cycles coming, I forgot about all the testing that I had done until I called the nurse. Since I'm not TTC right now, I guess I don't have to worry about any fertility treatments, and my diet is pretty balanced, which is why I guess my cycles have been doing what they were doing.
Lisa, I will ask to speak to my doctor next time.
Thanks again.
Hello,
I dont think it could hurt to have the tests done again. I was diagnosed with having PCOS because something was off on one of my hormones in 2003. My OB/GYN was looking at ONE bloodtest that I had done a couple of years prior and just gave me a prescription for Glucophage. I eat healthy too and I run 5-6 times a week. I started temping later that year and I was definately ovulating and my cycles were always regular. I went to an RE a year ago and he did an ultrasound and didnt find a single cyst on any of my ovaries. He even said the dose was all wrong for me to begin with. I never had an U/S with the OB/GYN. I have had several U/S since and still nothing except a small one on my left because of all the clomid I was on so he wanted me to take a break this cycle and I will do IVF next.
Good Luck with everything.

Thank you all for your support. I was thinking of having the tests done again because when I had the last one's done, I had been on BCP for about 5-6 years and I'm wondering if those don't have something to do with the cysts. Regardless of that, I am considering a blood test at my general practitioners, even if it's just to rule out pregnancy. I'm so sick of this "cycle". And I'm really upset about the PCOS, because I was having really good cycles. I'm going to take another urine test in the morning, although I'm sure it'll be negative, but what could it hurt. It beats sitting around for two weeks and doing nothing. BTW, I haven't had any real pg symptoms either, except cramping so I was never entirely convinced that I was, but it was the only thing at the time that made sense for a late period. Everything else was typical PMS I guess.
I'll keep you all posted.
