Perimenapausal and wondering ...

Hi. First post. I am 45 and my periods are becoming irregular. After a recent divorce from an impotent husband (no birth children) I have become involved with a wonderful man. My ob/gyn said my chances of conception were only about 10% so we were not really concerned. However...I am now 6 days late. I have had vague nausea for about a week and I am always needing a nap. I have had a huge increase in appetite and some tenderness in my nipples. I used a ClearBlue OTC test yesterday, which came back negative. Could my fluctuating hormones (perimenapause) be causing the negative? Is it too early for a blood test? I do have an app w/ my ob Fri. I wonder if she will be able to tell anything if the test is still neg? After first experiencing panic (!) I now find myself filled with wonder and hope. I had long given up on ever being pregnant. I know I may be setting myself up for a big heartbreak, but I can't help wondering "what if..." Any words of wisdom would be so appreciated. Oh, my member name is a hopeful one!! Also...is there a place on this site were I can find out what all the abbreviations mean?? Thanks!

Also ... I am gassy and bloated. I had some light, steady cramping on days 29 and 30, no bleeding. Felt like I was going to start, never did. Thanks again!

The saga continues! I went to my docs this morning. She sent me for a blood test and ordered the results stat. My hCG level is 3. She said 0-2 is negative. Sooooo, I'm either NOT pregnant, or I'm only 1-2 wks since conception. She wants me to go back for another test on Mon, as the hCG levels should double every 48 hours if it's viable.

Has anybody had any thing like this? Any words of wisdom? This is going to be a VERY long weekend!!

Debra

I'm going to post this under Testing Testing 123 as well, as this will come up as a reply.

I haven't been through such early testing but I wanted to say that HCG doesn't start to build until after implantation...so your little eggy may have just now implanted and that's why the numbers were low. Goodluck!

Thanks Dawn! I'll be having the blood test done today, so ...! Of course, I'll just consider a negative "inconclusive" so they may as well give me big numbers and a BFP right now! Ha!

Well, it's a no-go, I'm afraid. hCG was still at 3, so, no bean. Not sure yet what I'm feeling. Disapponted for sure, thou I really wouldn't let myself believe that I was pg, anyway! Hope to see you all again, thou my screen name will be different! Thanks and best wishes to all of you!
