on the pill, but could I be pregnant?

I am on the pill ortho tricyclen and I am a bad pill taker. At times I forget to take a pill and take it around the same time most days but at the same exact time everyday. This past month, there were a couple of days where I forgot to take my pill but took them all how instructed on the insert once I remembered.
The guy I'm seeing and I do not use protection when we sleep together (yes, I know, we should but we didn't). Here is my dilemma: We slept together on a Friday and I remember after using the bathroom the next morning, when I wiped I noticed some light blood marks on the toilet paper but just shrugged it off. I was due for my period in the next couple of days so just figured it was starting. Well, I did not get my period for four more days and when I did get it, it seemed lighter than normal. I feel bloated in my belly, but it is all over, not just concentrated in the lower ab area. Is it possible that I could be pregnant? Could that first spot of blood have been implantation, and if so, is that possible for that to happen so close to my period? I took a pregnancy test the day before I got my actual period and it was negative. This will be my second child if I am pregnant and I don't remember having symptoms of pregnancy until my nausea started.
Today I thought my nipples were a little different feeling but I'm not sure if it is just in my head and I'm thinking about being pregnant so much that my brain is making stuff up. I know it is always said that women know that they are pregnant before it ever gets confirmed, and I kind of feel like I am, like I have that "knowing" feeling, but, once again, I am wondering if my self is just wishing I am pregnant and trying to convince me I am even if I am not.
The thing is, is that I would really like to be and I'm afaid that if I go to the Dr., he'll confirm I'm not and I'd be so disappointed.

Hi there,
BCP can really mess around with your body and cycles, especially if not taking correctly and even more so if you had to take a double dose because of missed pills. I would say that if you're late for AF, you should take an HPT. But the spotting you had sounds like it is just your body adjusting to the levels of hormones. But to answer your question about implanation bleeding, I do believe that if that does happen, it usually occurs around the time you'd expect AF, it's about 7-10DPO.
I know how disappointing seeing a BFN when you really want to be pg, but testing will help ease your mind, one way or the other.
Good luck and keep us posted on how you're doing and your situation! :)
