Hello everyone:

I have a question... Is it possible to take 4 Home pregnancy tests over a months time, have them come out negative, and still be pregnant?

My last period was 7/21/06. Normal length, flow, and right on time! I haven't had a period since! I have been off the pill since March so I know its not because of that. My partner and I used condoms and nothing broke (to my knowledge) so what's the deal? I can count on my period to the second, so this has got me very confused. If I was pregnant shouldn't I have tested positive by now? Yesterday I should have started my cycle and nothing as of yet. I have many pg symptoms including: -breast soreness (they feel like glass), which never happens even when I get my period. -FREQUENT urination (at least 3 times in an hour). -bloated and gassy. -heartburn. -nipple changes. -a bad case of acne which cleared up on its own (for the most part) in about two weeks. -and a feeling of pressure and stretching in my abdomen. I don't have insurance, so any help you guys can offer would be appreciated.

I am always on schedule, but with these negative test results I'm starting to think its all in my head. I am freaking out as to what is going on...PLEASE ADVISE.

well i can't predict what will happen to you in the near future but from my experiences i was three months before i even knew i was pregnant and during each month every pregnancy test i took was negative. i went to the hospital for a blood test and that was positive and then i still didn't show signs until after the third month. so all i can say is alot of people think that if you act as if you are and you see signs then you know you have to be but sometimes it is just all in your head. basically, all you can do is wait and if you have already seen your doctor then maybe you could just be feeling symptoms because you really are pregnant. even the best tests to use can be wrong. trust your instinct. that's what i do. good luck. hope you are feeling okay

Thank you so much for your response! I truly feel I am pregnant but everyone I talk to about my symptoms is like " oh it's just stress" and "maybe you're just off this month" but I know my body like clockwork and I am NEVER late. The only other time I was late was the last time I got pregnant (in 2003), but I miscarried at 6 weeks. That time though when I took a home pregnancy test it came up positive immediately. I guess I am just confused as to why at nearly 9 weeks since my last period I would not be showing positive on a HPT yet. Anyway I am going to go to the ER tomorrow and have a blood test done to see what happens. If I am not pregnant then something is definately wrong.

Thanks again for your input.

PS. What made you finally take a blood test to find out when you were pregnant? 3 months is a long time to show negative... Did the doctor ever tell you what why it didn't show up positive?

i was so frazzled that my period was delayed and then i got pregnant so i didn't even have a clue that it was in fact a baby. i guess i didn't pay attention to my body as much like you do. well i got sick of wasting money on the pee test so i decided to get a blood one. and my doctor just told me it probably didn't sure because my urine consistency had not changed yet. either that or i was just using the test strip wrong. i have no idea. however, i hope your visit goes well. keep me posted. and stay confident. you may and you may not.

I have been reading some of the posts in this section and I am wondering: To the ladies that have taken 4 and 5 HPT's and getting a negative result, only to find out at month 4 (or as late as month 7!) that they are indeed pregnant, has the doctor ever said why those initial tests came out negative?

This is what has got me going crazy! I mean if a HPT test is supposed to be over 99% accurate, why are so many people getting false negatives (so often) and so late into their pregnancy (I mean 8, 9 weeks?)?

Any ideas?

hi,

i am pretty much in the same boat as you. AF was scheduled to be here in July and nothing. even on this day of sept 24th still no sign of AF. I have taken two hpt's and both were negative. i am scheduled for a blood test on 10/16. my breasts have been sore beyond belief, i can't sleep at night, very emotional, and major cramping going on. a few days ago my cramps were so bad that i would've bet my life that AF would be here. my husband and i have been trying for 1yr and a half and there was only one other time that i was late and it was about 2 weeks, but never this late before. i am with you...if i am why is it not showing up on the hpt's. i refuse to take another one (can't handle the negative result). i will just wait until i go to the dr's. keep me posted. i want to know what happens, and i will let you know as well.

Well, I am glad I am not the only one going through this stress. After a couple of negative tests, you kinda get down on yourself whether you were planning for a baby or not. Once you wrap your head around the idea, it can be kinda disappointing if the results don't come out as you want.

I went to take a blood test yesterday and should have the results tomorrow. I will keep you posted.

PS. according to the nurse taking my blood, this situation is not uncommon... Go Figure!
