Please Help!

I recently posted a question and never got a reply, so any information would be greatly appreciated! I was fourteen days late, but did eventually start yesterday. I got horrible cramps that morning, which I have never gotten before, but my period only lasted for about a day and a half. Normally I usually go for at least four days. I am also very tired, my lower back hurts, I have nausea, my fingers are swollen, I have a decreased appetite and I am very moody. What's going on?

I think you should go see your doctor. I don't want to scare you, but it sounds like you may have had a miscarraige. I've never had one, but your problem sounds a lot like a friend of mine had when she miscarried her twins.

Many times when a woman has a miscarraige (which I obviously can't spell right) very early in her pregnancy, it seems like a late or unusually heavy period.

I don't know how old you are either, though. If you just started menstrating in the last year or so, you just might not have adjusted to your cycles yet.

You also might just have wacky cycles like I do. My menses come whenever they feel like it and sometimes I will go for months with no particular pattern in bleeding or cramps. The Pill didn't even help straighten them out (probably because I'm not very good at remembering them).

Anyway, I would make an appointment just to make sure nothing's up. I know that it's scary when things don't seem like they're going the way they should. Just talking to my Nurse Practioner, or even my Mama Jan (my mother-in-law and I have been close for years before I married her son.) makes me feel a lot better. Do you have someone to talk to about this stuff?

I hope that everything is ok.

I don't really have anyone to talk to about it. I am 26 and up until now my periods have been pretty consistant. I unfortunately do not have health insurance right now and that has been preventing me from going to the doctor.

Did you take a pregnancy test at any time? I feel VERY STRONGLY that if you are 14 days late, you should immediately go to the gynocologist. Add to that that you've been in pain, and I feel even more very strongly that you should go.

Some of the things that are possible are: miscarriage, ecoptic pregnancy, pregnancy, and nothing at all (you were just late). I really think the only thing to do at this point is to go to the gyn. If it is any of the first 3 possibilities, you will need care.

I wish you well.

I just read that you have no insurance. I know that in the state of California, you can get Early Baby care -- gynecological care even if you don't have insurance. If you will tell me what state you are in, I will check to see if there is such a program in your state. I do believe that a number of states have this kind of early wellness care for young mothers in order to ensure that their newly born citizens arrive healthy. You might also look in the Blue Pages of the phone book and look for the Health and Human Services (or equivalent) numbers for your state, county, and town. Also, look into medicare. I would be happy to help you with this if you want, not sure I will get anywhere but I will try.

I understand. I've had the same problem and my doctor wasn't very helpful. I started having troubles and went to the doctor w/o insurance. I told them I didn't have it and they said it was ok. They ordered four different blood tests. I got my bill, found out the office visit (ten minutes with the doc) cost me $90 and each blood test was another $100. I'm still paying for it and they have the nerve to threaten to send a collection agency after me! Like they expected $500 to grow in my backyard overnight! GRRR!

See if the health department in your county will give you a check-up. In mine, all they could do was paps and exams. They won't diagnose a specific problem, but they might let you know if they think further medical help is needed.

By the way, if you need someone to vent to, it looks like there are a lot of friendly people here, including me.....keep us in mind.

Thank you everyone for your help! I live in Tennesse and am currently looking into various different insurance programs, I just haven't found anything yet that is reasonably affordable yet. I do appreciate all the help and suggestions though, so feel free to keep them coming! :)
