WEird...i can't figure this out unless i was just in shock with the news. Does anyone know why when i went to get a pregnancy test that they told me it was a matter of when I had my last period(July 14th) to tell how many weeks I was pregnant and NOT when I actually had sex? If the point of conception was on July 30th and it's now August 23rd why would they tell me you're 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant, when it should only be 23-24 days - 3 weeks and 3 days?

to make it easier on everyone involved, they simply add the 2 weeks from the day of your last period to the actual weeks of pregnancy. just the general practice, i guess.

you are correct, you would REALLY only be 3 weeks, and they are saying 5. just go with it- the "heartbeat at __ weeks" is based by that anyway, so you may as well get used to it! and, later on, you'll be glad you don't have to wait that extra 2 weeks, trust me!

It's one of those "weird doctor things." Based on a "perfect" 28-day cycle, they count pregnancy from the beginning of the cycle in which you conceive, not from your conception date. I agree... very, very weird stuff...
