Possible for fert'd egg to not implant?

I have a strange question. For 4 of the last 5 months, I've had pg symptoms starting a few days after ovulation and going on for about a week. Normaly I only get painful bb's if 1)I'm pg, or 2)I'm on the pill. So I've been getting 'em to where it hurts to stand up in the morning. This along w/a few other symptoms. Anyway, if it were "all in my head," it stands to reason that the symptoms would persisit b/c I want so much to be pregnant. But instead, the symptoms stop as abruptly as they started, which of course is about as crushing as getting AF. I mean, I wake up one morning and have normal bbs, no hearturn, no nausea, nothing.

I spoke to a friend of mine who's a nurse, and she suggested that it might be that we're successfully fertilizing an egg, but that it isn't implanting. Have any of you ever heard of this? Of course it's now the weekend so i can't get in to see my doc, but I'll make an appt Monday. But if anyone has heard of this and has any info, I'd really really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Deb

Hi Deb!

It is definately possible. When an egg fert'd but does not implant, it is called a chemical pregnancy. Many women don't even know it happens to them b/c their AF will only be late a few days. This has happened to me 2 times in four months. It is a VERY early miscarriage. I know I was having them b/c I took HPT that came ot positive and a few days later either neg. or I get my AF. I also took blood tests. I am in the process of temping now. Good luck!

Hi,

Same here, i had a "chemical pg" last month, i was devastated as i always thought "a line is a line" and just "assumed" i would produce a baby 9 months later, so when AF showed up 8 days late it was awful. I just hope it doesnt happen to me again this cycle.

good luck!!

That is really interesting to finally get to the bottom of that! I have heard of something like it but never understood.

I think I had that once but I wasn't sure. That is so disappointing especially if you got a positive pregnancy result.

Good luck to alllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't experienced this before, or atleast not knowingly. I was wondering if AF is the usual or if there is a heavier flow or any difference from a regular AF? Thanks.

I think I had this once because I got an early period with horribly bad cramps and it was really heavy!! That never happend again and it had never happend before.

I think normally you would get a heavier period from this.

I am from BC how about you???

Some woman are different. I had NO cramping. Af was a little heavier and lasted longer. Just more emotional than anything!!!

I had a chemical pregnancy last month and it was the PITS!! I had every pregnancy symptom that you can imagine (nausea, watery mouth, heavy cm, very, VERY tender bb's, fatigue, etc.). I was 99% positive that I was prego and I got a very faint line positive on 11dpo (that's what I get for testing so early!) and then I woke up the next morning and EVERY symptom was GONE! Took another test and it was negative. I ended up getting my period 3 days later than normal and it only lasted three days. The first day was heavy and then the next two were very light. So, it was shorter and less intense than normal. I have heard that this can happen in women who have lower levels of progesterone than normal. This hormone is produced after ovulation to thicken up the uterine wall so that the egg can implant and have nourishment. If you don't produce enough progesterone, there is not enough 'cushion' to implant. I have also heard that there can be a chromosomal abnormality that can cause the pregnancy to fail. I am keeping my fingers crossed this month and hoping that we all get what we wish for!!! Good luck and STICKINESS, STICKINESS, STICKINESS to all!

Ktulsian,

That's almost EXACTLY what I experienced... except for the being late part. But aaargh, the total disappearance of symptoms... overnight! You're right, it's the pits! But I'm so glad to hear that it's normal and I'm not some lunatic imagining all this. Thanks so much for the reply.
