Pregnant on BC?

Hey everyone! I'm a newbie to the board, but I was hoping you all could shed some light on this for me...

I've been on the Nuvaring for a year now and I've never experienced any symptoms that would make me suspect that I was pregnant. However, for the past month or so I've been having some really unusual feelings. I've been really fatigued, dizzy, nauseated and my breasts started feeling sore long before they usually do with PMS. I've also been going to the bathroom a lot more than usual. I got my period in January, but it was much lighter and shorter than usual. Is it at all possible that I could have gotten pregnant even though I'm on a BC that is impossible to mess up? I'm not supposed to start until Wednesday, so I haven't tested yet. I actually had labs done for the dizziness and fatigue to check my electrolytes and blood sugar, but they came back fine. A lot of moms I know have suggested that pregnancy might be the answer. Has anyone else gotten pregnant on BC, Nuvaring or otherwise?

Thanks so much!!

I just took an HPT and it was negative, but I haven't actually missed my period yet. I'm going to try again first thing tomorrow, and if that's still negative, I'll wait for AF to come. We'll see...

When they did all your testing wouldn't they have tested for that? I mean usually that is a normal thing to suspect when you give those symptoms so it'd seem like a doctor would want to rule that out also. I've never heard of anyone getting pregnant on birth control unless they missed doses or were on medicine that interfered with it but isn't it something like 3% of people birth control doesn't work on? I guess the only way to know for sure is to wait it out and either a test will come up positive or you'll get your period.

I was surprised that they didn't test for that too. I didn't even think about it until it was all said and done though. I have some other things that could effect my blood sugar levels though, so maybe that's why they immediately jumped on that.

Anyway, I tested again and it was still negative. No period yet though.

I have a friend they did all kids of tests on when she had similar symptoms. Oddly enough it took them about a month to do a pregnancy test which was what was causing the symptoms. So generally if you're not TTC it's not one of the first things they check because they just don't think it could be that. She also was on BC, but she was using the ortho evra (sp?) patch.

Good luck

Stephanie

Hello,

I am now 12 wks pregnant after being on the "mini pill" for over a year. I went for 8 yrs without using any type of birth control at all with my husband, then after we divorced, I got on the pill. I have been with my fiance' for a year now, and we are just as happy as can be.
The only thing I can assume is that I was mean to have this baby with this wonderful man, and birth control or not, it was going to happen. I also have a 16 yr old daughter that was a "pill" baby. I think I have better luck without the pill than with.
Best of luck to you.

Honestly don't stress yourself about it--that could be exactly whats causing it--stress!! Is there something going on your life? Have you been taking any different kinds of medicine? I took stacker pills for awhile and was always dizzy, very very faint and wanting to throw up...it took me awhile to figure out I was making myself sick! You could also have a psuedopregnancy. My mother had a friend who wanted a baby so much she started getting the symptoms and even the home pregnancy test would come up positive but but when she'd go to the doctor she'd find out she really wasnt pregnant...just trying to come up with possibilities...I guess the best bet to finding out is to ask your doctor to do the test. Best of luck!
