Scared to death... need a little help

This is going to be long but I think the details are important.

I received my second depo provera shot on September 18th. About two weeks before that, my boyfriend and I were having intercourse and I began bleeding. I didn't really know what to think so I called my doctor the next day and said that bleeding before the next shot was normal. So for the next two weeks I just kept bleeding. It didn't stop until the next morning after I received the shot. Everything was going great until about two weeks ago when I started getting really bad headaches. I began to be tired all the time, having to pee 200 times a day, mood swings where I just cry for absolutely no reason, slight constipation, and back pain. I kind of started thinking I could be pregnant. Three days ago, I just randomly started bleeding but it wasn't heavy and it wasn't a darker red like a normal period and it stopped the next day. I took a home pregnancy test yesterday and it came back negative and I took another one that evening. When I took it, I watched it go across the screen and there was a real light positive sign but the negative was darker. So I went into the other room for about 3 or 4 minutes and went back and it said negative again. Is there still a chance that I am pregnant??? Also, if I am pregnant, can me recieving the shot so recently hurt the baby? Somone help!!

Here's some info from someone who had been on Depo for two years, and had friends as well who were on depo.
the mood swings, normal. because you're on a progesterone only hormone which you aren't used to. also like your doctor said the bleeding before the next shot is normal, it happened to me, and as for the constant bleeding for two weeks, I had a friend on depo who bled the entire time she was on it, which resulted in her converting back to BC pills. Headaches too are another side effect. I would have very bad headaches before my next needle was due and a couple weeks after. As for the back pain and peeing a lot, I have no idea.
if you are really concerned please go back to the doctor. unlike the pill you can't just stop taking it halfway through , so if you are pregnant you definately don't want to get your next shot. get the doc to do a blood test to ease your mind and let me know how it works out!

Hi there. I have been on depo before, also, so I might be able to offer some insight. I had my first depo shot october 2004. I had a second one january 2005. After my 2nd shot I had lite bleeding for a while straight (like the very tail end of your AF). I decided I did not want to be on the depo shot anymore, so I didn't get another shot. My cycles still did not start by January 2006 (b/c of the side effects of depo), so they put me on bc pills. Well, 3 months later I was pregnant... while taking the pill. So just because you have weird things happening with the shot, it doesn't necessarily mean you're pregnant. The shot really messes up your cycle, so many unexpected things can happen! If you're really concerned, see your doctor for a blood test.

My cousin has been on the shot for about three years. She told me that the shot can give you symptoms of being pregnant. If there is pain you might have an ectopic pregnancy, which is also caused by the shot. Your doctor should look into your symptoms more and at least be more concerned than just giving you another shot. Didn't you have to take a pregnancy test before you recieved the shot last time? Take a blood test it is the only to detect a pregnancy while on the shot. (From what my cousin says)

One of my close friends is a doctor, and she has told me that having birth control in your system has NOT been shown to hurt the baby, so I wouldn't worry about that. As far as whether you are pregnant or not... the light bleeding for one day sounds like it could be implantation bleeding, and if it was, the pregnancy test would not come back Positive until 1-2 weeks after the implantation. So, you'll have to wait until that time frame, or ask your doctor for a blood test, which can tell much sooner.
Of course, the shot is also known to mess up your cycle, and when I was on it my periods were completely unpredictable.. sometimes stopping for 2 months, and other times bleeding for 2 weeks straight. So it could be the shot messing with your system that is causing some of it. I don't know if this helps a whole lot, but good luck either way it goes!!

Thank you to everyone who posted a reply. I am feeling much better (I havent been sick the past 2 mornings or afternoons) and the more I research on the internet, the more people I find who have also had pregnancy symptoms while on the shot. I thought the shot sounded perfect... no period, no problems. But I really think its causing more problems than anything!! Im still being cautious about the medicine I take and avoiding things I shouldnt be around if I were to be pregnant, but I am feeling a little better about the situation. I will re-take the pregnancy test in about a week or so just to make sure. I too have a friend that got pregnant on the shot so I know it can happen! Thanks again everyone!!
