OK, I am freaking out. I have been on birth control, for about a month now. My boyfriend has been cumming in me, but around the time I would have been ovulating if for some reason the pill wasnt working, he used condoms. I usually take my pill around noon, but 2 days ago I took at at 1am because I forgot. Now 2 days after, I am spotting, like a brownish color and I am freaking out!!! Could this mean I am pregnant??? I am supposed to start my period Sunday!! Today is wednesday. Could you please send me an email??

yes, you could be. the bleeding you describe sounds like the typical implantation bleeding some women experience. also, the pill should not be considered fully effective until you've been on it for a couple months. it takes your body time to get used to it. at the same time, the bleeding could just be a side effect of the pill as it also can cause spotting for a little while. i had spotting when i started on the pill, actually. if you're really concerned, wait until two-three weeks from when you think you might have gotten pregnant and take a home test. good luck!

I'm surprised that your Dr. didn't talk to you about the fact that the birth control pill isn't fully effective for the first couple of months ... if you don't want to get pregnant, you should be using something else too. Wasn't there some instructions with your pills that you read? If not ... I would be asking your Dr. why you were not educated about this if I were you!

Hi

I have been on the pill for a few years, I was told that the pill is effective from the FIRST month you take it, thats also what it says on the instructions that come with the packs. If you missed a pill this can cause breakthrough bleeding, especially if this is your first month taking them. (some women get this even without missing any pills)

Because you did miss a pill there is a CHANCE you could be pregnant I would say it is a small chance however, (especially if you used condoms for some of the time as well). If your next period does not arrive as normal, take a test, until then you probably dont have a problem.

the instructions say it's effective after 7 days of consecutive use, my doctor advised me not to rely on it alone for at least a month, and i've heard two months from other sources. my guess is that it can be effective for some women after 7 days, but often isn't FULLY effective (i.e. the 99.9% they always say) until you've been on it a month or two, and THAT'S only if you take it at the same time every day and never miss a pill. with AVERAGE use - i.e. usually taking it at about the same time and doubling up if a pill is missed - it's only 95% effective. that means that it's expected that 1 in 20 women who rely only on the pill will get pregnant within a year's time. kinda sux for those poor, mis-informed girls who aren't really ready for the possibility, don't it? not as horrible for those of us who are commited and planning on starting a family, but just want to wait a little longer. (like me!)

Don't worry!!! I would be shocked if you were pregnant. If this is your first month on the pill, your body is probably just getting used to the change in hormones. Remember this, for most people, it is not "easy" to conceive even when they are trying. I suggest you don't spend too much time worrying about it as this will probably just mess your cycle up more and cause more worry.
