Spotting...advise needed

This is my first time posting here. It seems like you ladies know a lot on this subject. I am 23 and have been on the Ortho Evra patch for 1 year. I have had some unusual symptoms this week, though.

On Monday I started having mild sharp pains on the left side of my front pelvic area, NOT my stomach. They were low. This lasted through Tuesday, then on Wednesday I had brownish red blood on my underpants. Since then it has been extremely light, dark brown spotting; sort of dry as if it were old or something. It is now Friday, so this has been going on for more than 48 hours. I have been feeling mild nausea since yesterday afternoon; but this could be anxiety so I don't know. I really am not having any other pregnancy symptoms.

Could this be the cramps and spotting that occurs following implantation? It seems like it isn't, due to what I read on this message board (i.e. blood is not pink, spotting lasting more than a few days, sharp pains instead of menstrual-type cramps).

There is very little chance that I could be pregnant. I am very religious about using the Patch right and my bf always wears a condom when he ejaculates. The only chance we would have of conception is pre-ejaculation when we don't always have the condom on. I am 23, have been with bf for 3 years. I do NOT want to have children The time isn't right and I am not feeling maternal yet. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi, I am not an expert but I had some spotting this cycle too. I only spotted once tho. It is possible especially since you described a sharp pain on one side that you felt ovulation. I know in my early 20's that I started getting that pain occasionaly mid cycle. If it was only for a short time or for up to a couple days then that might be it. If you don't stop spotting or miss your

Kim :)

Thanks for your replies. AF should be here in about 8-10 days. My last AF ended at the very beginning of this month. I don't know when my normal ovulation would occur, or if it does at all since I thought birth control was supposed to prevent it. I don't know. I need to go back to Sex Ed I think.

Some birth controls don't prevent ovulation.

may I ask how much u weigh cuz the patch has a weight limit and if u are around the limit it becomes less effective.
I had spotting off and on the whole time I was on the ortho-evra patch.

Sweetie.. I'm sending you a huge hug. I know it's scary espically of the unknown. It sounds to me like the spotting your having as well as the pain, it could be signs of ovulation. It's sometimes not uncommon to have those two symptoms around that time. The only way to know for sure if your are prengnat or not is to take a test, and the best time to do that is right around your expected af. Some tests advertiage that you should get the results up to 5 days before your missed period, and I can honestly say, I've never heard or it's never happened to me. Good luck and please keep us posted. HUGS!

I believe the weight limit for the patch is somewhere around 200 lbs, and I'm at about 145. I would hope that Planned Parenthood would keep this in mind when prescribing this drug.

Update: I have been spotting the same ever since I wrote this (about 5 days ago). Today, though, I am actually bleeding and I feel menstrual so I believe AF is here. AF is early because I didn't make it to Planned Parenthood in time on Friday, so I had to go the whole weekend without a patch, which basically forced my body into menstruation, I think.

I really don't FEEL pregnant, but I know it can be hard to tell. This spotting and pain has seriously not happened to me the entire time I've been on the Patch. Maybe this is my warning from a higher power that I should be more careful and that I am not invincible.

I will definitely keep you all posted because I know how it stinks to answer people's questions and then not find out how it all went. Maybe this info can help someone else in the same situation.
