Test negative but still pregnant??

Hi All-

This is the first time I've asked a question on this board. Here is my situation-I am 1 1/2 weeks late for AF and when I went on Friday to my ob/gyn she took a prelim ultrasound and said that at 5 weeks 1 day she wouldn't be able to see a forming fetus but that my uterine lining was thick enough that I could be very probably be pregnant-went so far as t say she suspected my bloodwork would come back positive and prescribed prenatal vit's.

However, the home tests I've taken have come up negative. Has this happened to anyone here? I am so anxious and still 36 hours to go til i hear from dr's office and am cautiously hopeful. I have all the symptoms, nausea, etc (that just set in the last 2 dys or so) and can't understand why more than ONE HPT would come out negative.

Thanks for any advice you can offer

It depends on the test and how late you are. My first pg, the test was negative and a week later still no af so my roommate had told me to test again, but I didn't want to *waste* the money. After I broke down and got another test (about 2 weeks after af was due) I got a positive. I wouldn't worry about it since your dr thinks you are pg.

Good luck!

Dear Tara,

Well maybe you know the answer to this if you can help me out

My friends have told me that the HPTs they have on the market now are "so good", so much more accurate than they used to be, but i always thought a blood test was the most accurate way. How much more senistive are these blood tests than the HPTs? Well I guess the minimum HCG for a HPT is 25 -i'm gussing the blood test can read as little as 5 or 10 is that the way it works??

Hi, thought I would let you know that with my DD I didn't get a positive test until I was almost 6 weeks pg. I had a cycle about 2-1-02 and didn't get a BFP until 3-10-02. I was on about cd40 before I got my BFP. I had taken 2 tests prior and both were BFN's. I was infact pg when both showed neg. I am currently having a few symptoms and am 14dpo today and got a BFN. If af doesn't rear her ugly head within the week and I truly hope she doesn't I am going to call my doc for a blood test. Best of luck and lots of baby dust to you.

Here is my situation I am at CD44 and when I tested this morning I got a BFN. My cycles are usually 34 days but have occasionally been 38. I am completely stressing out as I had a m/c on July 10. I am so worried that this is a sign of another m/c. I plan to call the doctor tomorrow to get some answers. Does anyone know if a BFN this late would indicate a m/c or if I could in fact really be pregnant?

As far as I know, the hpt's that are on the market are really good. Personally I have had good experience with the CVS brand tests. I believe your dr will do a blood test if you are still without af and still getting negative hpt's. The blood test will give you a number, I had a dnc due to an incomplete mc in March 2001 and I had to keep getting my blood drawn every week. My OB told me that when the number was under 5 (if I remember correctly, no higher than 10), it was considered negative.

Sorry this got long. HTH!!
