Is there such a thing as a false positive in a HPT? We have been letting nature take its course after 5 years on teh pill, and I am feeling a little yucky (nausea, tender BBs and tired as all get out) I am afraid to take a test and have my hopes get up only to find out that it could be a false positive. I definitely don't feel like myself and I am not ill. This is ususally my PMS week, but I don't feel that way either. Any advise is welcome. Prayers are good too!!!

From what I understand, yes there can be false positives--but they're not the norm.....if you really wanted to be sure, you could always go to the doctor! Or---wait until your period does or doesn't come---I know it's hard (and I shoudln't be giving testing advice, being a compulsive tester myseflf!GLTY!!!!

As long as you're reading the test correctly,

NO

there is no such thing as a false positive. There are false negatives, but not positives.

I've also read that you cannot have false positives, only false negatives. This is because it is the PG hormone hcg that the test detects, and you only have that in your body if you are PG.

Good luck!

I am an example of several false positives. I used both FRE and Early Answer. So yes, they can happen, and my tests were not faint they were BFP!
