What are the chances?

Hello everyone. I have a few questions. I am very aware of my body and have read up on my fertility, I have read the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility." I have regular 29 day periods. I seem to ovulate on day 15 of my cycle. I can normally tell because I have the pain in my abdomen almost every month. Well on day 15 of my cycle I had unprotected sex. However, I am thinking that the odds are that I'm not pregnant...here is my reason

1) I didn't have any pain this month in my abdomen, so if I normally have pain and I didn't this time, does this mean I did not ovulate?

2) If I did ovulate, they say in order to have a better chance of conceiving you should have sex before ovulation, instead of on the day because the egg is capable of surviving for only 12 to 24 hours after ovulation, so if it hasn't been fertilized by a sperm than its too late.

3) They also say in order to have a better chance of conceiving you should use the missionary position and lay in bed for awhile afterwards...and I did the complete opposite, I was on top and also got right up afterwards.

I don't mean to sound immature and ignorant about this topic, I just need some opinions.

Hi,

Well if it helps there is only a 20% chance of becoming pregnant each month for a normal, healthy couple. That said, it is completely possible and somewhat likely to get pregnant having sex on the day you ovulate - even the day after sometimes. Also, counting on pain to tell you whether or not you ovulated is not accurate. Just because you didn't feel anything doesn't mean that you didn't ovulate. The only real way to know is to wait for your period to either show or not show. Sorry to not be much help, but I wanted you to be aware that the day you ovulate is definitely a fertile time!

Good luck,

Amanda
