What are the odds?

I'm trying to figure out the odds that I could be pg..... I stopped taking the b.c. pill on 9/21/03 and we decided to ttc this month... We did everything that we could - we knew when I was ovulating, we put the pillow under my butt after we were done..... well, the past week or so, I've been very bloated and had some mild cramps and have taken a few hpt, but they all read as negative..... AF is not due until this wed. or thursday, and I was under the impression that the hpt should be able to detect enough of the pregnancy hormone by now and am disappointed that the test was still negative this morning - not even a glimmer of a 2nd line!!! So, I'm just wondering what the odds are that I could still be pregnant.... we believe that we did a good job in figuring out when I "O", and since then, I've been very bloated and had mild cramping, but the test is negative.... Should I lose hope now, or still hold on to the hope that the test could be wrong???

What do you think?

Hi there. In order for the pregnancy hormone to show up you have to wait until the first day that your period is due unless you get the First Response Pregnancy Kit which can detect four days earlier. If you don't get a positive result or your period, wait three days and do another one. Some women do not get a positive HPT test until their second trimester as sometimes the hormone just is not strong enough.

Good Luck!!

I did use the First Response test this morning.... and still negative.... just wondering if there is still any hope, or if that test is pretty accurate and dependable 3 days before AF is due.....

Well the whole point in those early tests is that you *can* get a positive early, but everyone produces hcg differently, and some won't be able to get a positive this soon even if they are pregnant. Also, I would like to add, that some who come off b/c will have pregnancy type symptoms the first few months off as there body gets back to normal, so it can make things hard if you start trying right away. But as long as your sure you did O thats a good sign, and maybe you got your chance this month.

Hey Shelly! You and I have the same scenario going. First month TTC #2. I am due for my AF the 23rd or so I tested Friday and BFN! In order to save ourselves some money and stop buying so many HPT's I bought 5 HPT online that detect 20 HCG. I should be getting those in the mail today or tomorow at the latest, I figured I would buy them online so I wouldnt feel tempted to test too early if I had them at home. We followed the ovulation and did the pillow and even followed the Shettles method (for a girl fingers XXX). Did you ovulate around the 9th? So far all I have felt is cramping and nausea here and there. My first pregnancy was five years ago (have wonderful son) I dont remember exactly when all the symptoms started to kick in I think it was like a after a month of being pregnant. I will test either this afternoon if the HPT's are here(dont want to wait till tomorrow morning) or tomorrow. Please keep me updated on how you do since our cases are so similar although HCG levels differ greatly from women to women. I would like to know when you do get your BFN! Good luck!

Wow, we really are on the same page with all of this! yes, I ovulated on the 9th..... and I think that AF would arrive around the 22nd if she is timely.... My DH and I decided to test again on Wednesday morning.... and then if AF still is not here, to test again on Friday. I'll let you know how it goes!!
