When can I HPT if I just had a period?

If you can have a period while pregnant, when do you take an HPT? Everything seems to say that an HPT should be taken before your period or right after your period. I'm just a little confused. I'm feeling the way I felt early in my last pregnancy, but I don't want to take a HPT prematurely...for our peace(piece?) of mind. I just had AF last week...normal and on schedule. The extreme fatigue, nausea and weepiness I've been experiencing for the past few days just don't seem to have any other explanation.

Thanks for any input.

Hello I was wondering if you have taken a blood pg test? I am not really sure how long after a period you shouold take a HPT but I know a blood test would confirm if you are pg or not anytime from just a couple of days past "O". I know this is not much help but just thought I would throw in my .02

Good luck

Hi! I've been lurking too...and wondering the same thing. I had AF last tues-sun , but it seemed lighter than usual, and i had spotting before and after. I tested somewhere in there, but BFN. My body still feels weird, I've been very bloated (ugh, like a balloon-my husband keeps poking my stomach and telling me how it doesn't poke anymore! :0) ). My lower ab has been feeling strange the past few days, kinda crampy, not much, but it's not normal, i think. But that may just be a bloating/gas issue. I felt like it would be positive when i tested, i was sure of it, but i finalled succumbed to the fact that it must be right and it's not telling me lies. But I don't have any other explanation for the bloating, I don't think I've ever been like this the week after AF. I don't have any other symptoms though, my bbs are back to their normal post af deflated selves. Do you think the best thing to do is to wait for next AF? or should i test again? I can't do a blood test due to money, i have no insurance (poor married college student!)...so money for a preg test is an issue. What do y'all think? and how is everyone else doing with this?

best wishes

Well since we haven't gotten a real answer...I've decided to wait another week before testing. I'm in the same boat with the finances and I don't want to "waste" a HPT if there's a chance it won't even be accurate. It's so hard to trust your body when just about anything can be a symptom of pregnancy! Good luck to everyone in the waiting room. I'll keep you posted.

I know, isn't it silly that once you think about it, everything is a symptom!? Arg...best of luck to you, let me know how it goes!

My SIL got what appeared to be a perfectly normal AF, then found out weeks later that she was actually pregnant at the time. HPT ads say "just before or after a missed period" so you wait until at least a certain number of days after ovulation. Since you've had an AF, you should be enough days past ovulation to detect a +... you can test anytime now.
