Yellow/Clear Liquid From Breast
12

My period is not due for 3 days, but last night I noticed that if I lightly squeeze my breasts a clear/yellowish liquid comes out. Has anyone had this happen and been pregnant or not pregnant? Everything I read says that if you are pregnant this shouldn't happen until around the 12th week, but if I am pregnant at all it is too early to tell on a pregnancy test. Help??? Is this normal, we have been TTC for 5 months now.

Hi

Ive always heard that at the beginning of pregnancy your bbs do not leak. I have also read that if your breasts leak it could be a sign of a breast infection. sometimes birth control pills make them leak also. I have been preggo before and my bbs never leaked any yellow/clear fluid at the beginning. Hope that helps. Although some women who are currently nursing or have just recently stopped get leaking sometimes. If you havent had a baby yet then leaking usually doesnt come until later. Good luck~

I have had that happen to me before. I was not pregnant, however it can be caused by a hormal imbalance. ( I was diagnosed with one, years ago). It normally happened around the time of my period. It did reoccur with my second pregnancy early on (I dont remember how early. I have that now again also, with some other pregnancy signs. My suggestion would be wait to see if your are pregnant. If not, speak to your ob/gyn and explain what happened, you may want to have a blood test to determine if your hormones are imbalanced if your trying to conceive, and having difficulty doing so. Either way you'll be making an appointment with them! Good Luck and keep me posted

Thank you for your replies. I went to the Dr. and had a Pregnancy Blood test and it is negative. They are also checking my blood for other problems and imbalances. Does anyone know that if it is a hormone imbalance...what do you do? We have been TTC for 5 months now and hope this doesn't get in the way. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Not to discourage you, but we tried to conceive for 5yrs before we were successful. It came to the point where doc was going to put me on low dose fertility pills, however wanted my hubby to be tested first. We couldn't afford it so we basically forgot about it. A month later I was pregnant. Try taking your mind somehow off of the subject. The hormonal imbalance I had was too much of one particular hormone (cant recall which one) which caused cystic ovaries, made my period irregular. I went on the pill for a short time which cleared everything up. My periods have been regualar since and we are now once again TTC. I'm feeling like it worked first try. We will see. Hang in there, see what the blood test shows and take it from there. Keep in touch, if I can offer any other advice,or experience I will try my best to do so.

Thank you so much for your advise. I will wait and see what the blood test says. My periods are very regular, in fact to the exact day. And it seems that I am ovulating right on schedule according to ovulation kits, but I hear they are not too reliable. Again, my breasts just started leaking this week so... I have heard that there is medication that you can go on to help balance your hormones but that doctors won't precribe them to you until you have been TTC for a year. I guess the entire reason that I am upset is because the Dr. I went to acted like it was not big deal and didn't even want to test my blood. I told her she had no choice...obviously this was not my regular Dr. just a nurse practioner who I have never seen before. Do you know that when you have this imbalance do you still ovulate or does imbalance make it impossible to get pregnant? Thanks for your help!!!

Hi

In response to your question about breast leakage, that happened to me as well in my early pregnancy. I was shocked because all the books, and people I knew said that doesn't happen until later in pregnancy. I went to the doctor, she said that is not uncommon, and that I had to start wearing breast pads earlier that most. Without being to graphic, as the pregnancy went on, the flow got stronger and stronger, to the point where I would wake up in the middle of the night and have the blanket and sheets soaked and stuck to me. If I stood up suddenly, my feet would get wet. Thankfully, once my baby arrived, I still had plenty of colostrum & milk for her, more than the nurses had seen in a first time mom in a long time. It did eventually even out to be normal. The doctor thought that it was hormones, but didn't see any reason to be alarmed or do anything about it. I had a healthy baby girl, who has always had plenty to eat!!! Good luck.

Thank you all for your responses. The news is...I am not pregnant according to a blood test, my period started right on the day it should have, and my blood test came back as my hormones are normal. So, I am not accepting that my breasts leaking are "normal" as it is not normal for me at all. I am going to another Dr. on Monday to get a second opinion as I do not want anything affecting my fertility. Any other thoughts are appreciated. If anyone knows what this could be...that would be great!

So glad to hear there was no imbalance detected. Your hormones fluctuate and you may have just been having an off month. But to your earlier question just in case. Yes you can still get pg with an imbalance. I hear my 19mo old running around with her dad downstairs. Good luck to you as always.

I had the same thing happen to me about a year ago. I only had it from the right side. If it is from both sides it could signal a pituitary (sp?) gland tumor. (not nearly as bad as it sounds..for the most part causes an increase in homones) Blood tests and an MRI would rule this out. I had both done even though it was only from one side. We never found a reason for it..and from what my dr said..and what I have read..a lot of times they never find out why it happens. Oh and I also had a mammography done too to be safe. I know a couple of other woman this has happend to and they also never found out what caused it. Nipple stimulation can cause it..and keep it going..so the more you check to see if its still happening..the more it will happen. So Dr. advised me to leave it be for a while and check back after some time.

I don't know if this is helpful or not..but at least you know you're not alone..
