A Baby Sib for Ryder

Hi all,

I have been trying to come up with names for new baby due in March.

I love nature names - bordering on hippy names. My DH is a little more conventional but he usually can be tipped my direction with a little work.

DS is called Ryder. I think it sounds cute and rugged. Suits him very well!

I love the name River for a boy or a girl. For a girl, we were thinking River Willow (last name starts with a B).

For a boy, I love River Sage but DH doesn't. He isn't completely sold on River as a boy name.

We like R names and Br names but we aren't limited to those.

If you had a son named Ryder (it's his middle name - first name is his father's name but he goes by Ryder), what would you name your little girl? What would you name a little brother?

I love all the popular names these days but I was baby #2 to have a really unique name!

Thanks for your help!

Honestly, with Ryder, I would pass on River for a sibling. It's simply too close for comfort in my mind. Without Ryder, I'd be cool with it on a brother and not into it for a sister. (I'm old enough that River Phoenix is still the key River for me.) If I did use it, I'd pass on the noun middle name with it--not fond of names that sound like descriptive phrases. Now, that said...I think Willow for a sister and Phoenix for a brother would go nicely with Ryder.

Hi there.

Ryder is a great name, & he's darling! I love River for a boy, but it's way too close to Ryder. River for a girl seems a bit masculine. Willow as a fn, however, would be perfect w/Ryder.

Here are some more suggestions-

Boys-

Beckett/Kit

Brant

Catcher/Catch

Casey

Dustin/Dusty

Emmett

Grey

Gibson/Gib

Harper

Leif

Nolan

Phoenix-I stole this suggestion from Dr. Kae, but it's a good one.

Quinn

Thatcher/Thatch

Tucker/Tuck

Wyatt-Although Ryder & Wyatt are a bit tricky to say together, it seems a similar style.

West

Girls-

Azalea/Zali

Clover-Similar in sound to River, is a nature name, but is much feminine.

Calla

Holly

Ivy

Wynn/Wynnie

Hope this helps!

Ooh, fun! Nature names! This is my favorite genre. I hope I'm not repeating . . .

- Winter
- Blue or Bleu
- Stone
- Rock
- Sunshine
- Dusk
- Cascade (I heard this one recently, but I can't say I'm sold as it makes me think of the detergent)
- Luna
- Stellan
- Fox (This is my boy's name, but I suppose it could go either way, especially as a mn)
- Love
- Etoile
- Cypress

I'll post again if I think of any more.

Ryder and River sound too similar for siblings, in my opinion. Here are some other options that you might like . . .

Ryder & baby brother . . .

Hunter
Jasper
Rainer (this is a little close to Ryder for my liking but you might like it)
Reid
Slater
Sloane
Stone
Trace

Ryder & baby sister . . .

Autumn
Blossom
Jewel
Rayna
Willa
Winter
Wren

Coming from someone who loves gender switch names (Addison & Emery), i think River sounds too masculin.

I love nature names, I wish I could get DH to like them! For a boy I love Sage, Eden or Cedar. For a girl I love Willow, Stream, Iris.
