Here we go again...

...we are expecting our third and last child! It is still very early, but of course I'm jumping into the name game feet first already! LOL I think I have my list narrowed down pretty well this time (at least for now), but I have a few issues I want opinions on. Mn for a girl will be Joanna and for a boy will be Wayne.

Girls-

Eloise- my only thing is the fact that it is three syllables and both my boys' names are two syllables. Yes I know, nitpicky...but I want all the names to sound good together. I still love this one though

Elise- is this becoming too popluar? Does it go with my boys?

Estelle- I think this is my favorite. Does it fit? What nickname would be obvious for this?

Boys-

August- I have loved this name for a long time, but I was distraught to find out (from several naming sites) that this is now crossing over into a gender neutral name! To me, August nn Gus is ALL boy, but I don't want people to question whether or not my baby is a boy or a girl. What do you think, would you give this name up because of that? Also- kind of a stupid question but, this baby will not be born in August, is it weird to name a child August who is born in March? Or is the opposite true, is it weird to name a child August who IS born in August?

Cyrus- the obvious problem with this is the association with Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus (I'm NOT a fan of either.) However, I like it because of Cyrus the Great of Persia, who let the Jews go home. (I just took a Western Civ class, that's where I got the name from.) Plus I LOVE the nn Cy. Opinions?

Dashiell- this is a recent addition to my list and my current fav. My issue would be spelling and pronunciation. We tried to spell my other boys' names so that the pronunciation would be obvious, but with this name, I don't think I would want to change the spelling. I want the pronunciation Dash-uhl. Should I change the spelling? Dashul, Dashel, Dashell...etc? Or leave it and correct people, because I have a feeling most would get it wrong.

That's it! I'm pretty proud of narrowing it down this far, but I told DH he was only getting a list with two options this time, so I have to make sure I have my two favs for each gender when I give it to him for vetoing...Thanks in advance!

Well, your list is very hard to narrow much further. Very nice. But, in order to actually help, I thought about the names in relation to the names of your sons and decided that Elise and August are my picks. Any of these would work well, though.

August totally seems male, to me. I believe you would be safe in using that for a son without gender confusion.

I'm not sure what the names are of your boys, but here are my thoughts on your list.

Eloise- very cute. I don't think a 3 syllable name would be odd with the two-syllable names.

Elise- I like this a lot. It's easy to pronounce and spell and it seems to bridge the gap between trendy names and older style names.

Estelle- This is my least favorite (without knowing your other children's names). Stelle seems to be the obvious nn.

Boys-

August- I love this and have never heard of a girl with this name. I think it is an established enough name (like June or May) that it can be used for anyone born in any month.

Cyrus- I think this is fine. I wouldn't associate it with Billy Ray or Miley. The nn of Cy is really cool. You might also like Silas with the nn of Si.

Dashiell- I think this is a handsome name, but might have pronunciation problems. I would leave the spelling as it is. The nn Dash is so handsome.

My other boys are Zavier and Quintin. I also have Silas with nn Si on my list, but I read somewhere that the name of a murderous monk in The DaVinci Code is Silas. I would rather have people think of Billy Ray Cyrus than a murderous monk, but it is still a possibility. For some reason I just tend to like the sound of Cyrus over Silas anyway...don't know why. Thank you for your comments!

Hi there.

Here are my thoughts-

Girls-

Eloise-So sweet! It's completely uncommon too, which I'm amazed by. I don't think that it's the best fit w/your boys' names, but it doesn't clash by any means.

Elise-It might be a bit more common then you're comfortable with. It's nice, but doesn't sparkle.

Estelle-I like the old fashioned feel of this. You're unlikely to run into another. I wouldn't say it's a perfect fit, but it's just fine like Eloise. I think that Eloise is a bit more whimsical, but I like both. The nn Elsie would sure by cute.

Boys-

August-This is totally a boy name! It's so handsome, & Gus is adorable. It's not weird to name a baby August born in any month; it really doesn't matter imo.

Cyrus- Ugh, why does pop culture have to ruin everything? I used to like this name too until the whole Miley Cyrus explosion. The nn Cy is cool. I like Si though as a nn for Simon, Silas, or Josiah.

Dashiell-Nah, I'd leave it at this spelling. It seems pretty self explanatory to me. Love the name, by the way.

Hope this helps!

This isn't everything, but I don't like how Elise and Eloise flow with Joanna. Estelle Joanna sounds better, IMO. Otherwise, Eloise would definitely be my favorite. I also think it meshes best with your boys' names (all are unusual, though your boys' names are a bit more offbeat).

I don't think there are really obvious nicknames for Estelle, but if you're looking for them, you could use Essie, Stella, Tellie, Ellie, or Elle.

August, Cyrus, and Dashiell are very fine names. August is all boy to me--I saw it on a birth announcement for a girl once, and it just didn't work, though I'd thought it could. It also has a very obvious feminine form, Augusta. August is in for boys now, among name nerds at least, so I think it's more like Parker or Carson (boy names that you occasionally see on girls, but are more popular for boys) than Bailey or Avery (formerly masculine names that have really taken off for girls, but are not being used for boys at all).

Cyrus is neat, and I definitely think of the Persian king first. I'd never heard of a Silas outside of the Bible. I love that name, and think it's very accessible and due for a comeback. I would find Billy Ray and Miley more problematic than an obscure Dan Brown character--even so, I named my daughter Hannah and only once got a Hannah Montana comment. People who know you will know you're using it in spite of them, not because of them, and no one will think you are naming your child for a crazy fictional monk. I also like pp's suggestions of Josiah and Simon. I much prefer Silas to Cyrus, though Cyrus is very handsome.

Dashiell isn't that problematic, imo. You'd only have to correct people once. And if you do change the spelling, you'll still have to correct people--they'll just be more educated people who are annoyed you butchered a gorgeous name, not people who simply hadn't heard of the name. If you must make it easier, just give him Dash as a legal name, or maybe something like Dashton?

Out of Dashiell, Cyrus, or August, it is very hard to pick an overall favorite (though if you throw Silas in the mix it easily gets my vote). Of Dashiell Wayne, Cyrus Wayne, or August Wayne, I'd go with Dashiell--the others run together a little, so they could sound like Cyra Swain or Augus Twain. But that's not a big issue, just would help me decide among the three. They all have a similar feel to your boys' names, though I think Dashiell matches a little better than Cyrus, and Cyrus a little better than August.

Good luck!
