Lucy has quickly been rising in popularity... # 101 in 2009. Lucille has been rising as well, but it was #570 in 2009. Lucille is on our short list, and not Lucy for this reason.
I would choose Lucy personally. I don't think it's overly popular. It's a name that has a classic quality but still seems fresh to me. I also grew up with a mother that is obsessed with I Love Lucy, so the name has a lot of meaning to me. :)
I'd probably choose Lucy, though I'd be tempted by Lucille since it was my grandmother's middle name.

my almost 6 year old is Lucy & we have yet to meet one her own age- a few babies but mostly women over the age of 50.
