Middle name - ugh.

Me again! Sorry I took a little absense, but I thought we had our names situation settled. We're def naming her Stella *but* we are in a battle of sorts over the middle name.

As I hashed though before, I'm basically stuck with Maria. No variations, no budging, Maria. It's my MIL's name and frankly, I hate it. It means so much to my husband though and we did after all honor my side last time. *sigh*

Here's the real quetion. I'm IN LOVE with the name Fox. We were in 100% agreement that if this baby had been a boy, his name would have been Fox. DH loves the name as much as I do, so I wouldn't call this gender disappointment, but it was quite a blow to not be able to use that name . . . unless. Is it suitable for a girl? Would Stella Fox be the most amazing thing on the planet (say yes!)

Hubs says it's a boys name and too masculine for our little Stella bell. Is this true? Or can middle names be fun and quirky, so who cares? I mean there are girls named Grayson and Addison and Michael as fns. Who cares if a little girl has an ambiguously male, kid of bizarre middle name like Fox anyway? The little bonus here is it is my grandpa's nickname, so it's not like I'm cheating one child out of honoring a relative. Right? It's still my side, but it's only his nickname.

DH said on a scale of 1-10 (ten being def yes, one being no chance) he's at about a 2. If I can convince him Fox can go either way, I might gain a little ground.

Please not Maria! Gughhghghgh. I go back and forth between hating it and merely thinking it's not terrible. Today is hate day.

Too bad you can't do variations--Stella Marie is nice.

I don't hear Fox and think, "That's a boy name," because I don't immediately think of it as a name.

Totally OT but "one of those comic books that refuses to be a comic book but must be a "graphic novel." is a priceless gem that made me LOL first thing this morning. Thx Kristen!

Hi there.

I agree that Fox is too masculine for a girl, however, I don't think that you should use Maria.

Here is what I think, take it FWIW. I would do neither.... use the middle name of Fox, or use the name Maria by itself.

Here is what I might do. Find a name that has a combo with Maria in it that you like. I am thinking of

I'm sorry to say even as a middle name Fox is a little too masculine for my personal taste.

A female fox is called a vixen... I wouldn't go there.

Thanks guys! Interesting thought on fox = vixen, I hadn't thought of that. As for StarFox, I'm not familiar with that reference and/or any Angelina Jolie characters named Fox. I'm not the biggest fan of hers, but I won't let it detur me from using the name next time.

I hadn't thought of the possibility of more children, but apparently DH did and that's his real sticking point - if we have a boy in the future, he would want to use the name. A) I guess we're having three kids and b) for some reason he's starting to open up to variations again. If we combine Maria with my mom's name (Karen) we get Maren, which is kind of cool.

Stella Maren - any thoughts? Thanks!! I LOVE THIS BOARD! I have been saved from naming my baby girl "vixen" lol.

I really like Stella Maren! That is classy and cool. It still somewhat honors his mom and I love that it gets to honor your mom as well!
