My Starting List
7

My name lists have been pretty stable for quite a while, but now that there is an actual pregnancy I wanted to see if you all had any suggestions to shake things up a bit. Big brother is Charles Isaac. Here are the lists -- note that we have a naming rule that requires names to start with C, D, I, L, M, or X.

Lydia - This is the strong frontrunner.
Margaret
Dorothy / Dorothea
Deborah
Cornelia (nn Nell)
Cecily
Martha
Daphne
Danica
Claudia

Lydia- Very nice!
Margaret- I love this. It has so many things going for it.
Dorothy/Dorothea- I like both of these. I met a little Dorothy about a year ago and was thrilled.
Deborah- Very nice, also. I also like Devorah, a lot.
Cornelia- Super sweet!
Cecily- I think this is great. Lovely!
Martha- Fabulous. I have so many good associations with this name. I have considered Mae or May as a nn for it.
Daphne- I think this is charming.
Danica- Nice, but I would say it's my least favorite on the list.
Claudia- Love this. It is one of my all time faves.
After seeing your list of girl names, it may be a good thing that Lydia is pretty locked in because I would have a terrible time trying to decide which name you should choose from your list. That is a seriously great list!
On to boys:
Lawrence- Nice! Do you have a nn in mind, or would you use the full form?
Michael- I have always liked this a lot.
Dimitri- Nice. What about as amn for Lawrence?
Daniel- Another favorite classic.
Mitchell- This isn't my favorite on your list.
Caleb- This is allright, not a fave.
Colin- Really like this one a lot.
Lionel- This is great. I'd love to see twins named Lionel and Cecily. Maybe you should have twins.
Matthew- I have always really liked this one.
You have really nice names to choose from even if you get bored of your favorites. I will let you know if I think of anything you might want to add, but seriously you are set with a nice list.

Lydia - This was ruined for me when a friend said it sounds like chalamydia.

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone! Trying to respond to several comments here at once:

I do like Damien and Damon, but I don't think they're really "us." Hudson doesn't fit with our initial rules.

I know that a lot of people are against Danica because it sounds new and made-up. But it actually made my list when I found out that it's a traditional Slavic name pronounced dah-NEE-tsa. I'm not sure if we'd pronounce it that way or DAN-i-kah, but it's a long shot for us anyway.

The problem with Margaret is that my cat is name Maggie. So I would definitely have to pick a different nickname if I decide to use it. Meg would probably be my favorite, or Molly.

Lawrence definitely has a nickname problem. I think I'll post a separate thread on that. I wish we still had polls available.

With Charles, I love Caleb or Mitchell for a boy. Both I think match the vibe of "not heard every day, but classic"
