This has been crossing my mind lately about avoiding the nn Maddie.

Anytime someone chooses a three syl. name the nn issue comes up.

I think Milly is darling. we call my cousin Mad Dog- it is a family only nn but at 10 she loves it. My cousin Nicole is nn Pixie as given to her by her older brother have the boys got any cute nn for her?

This is my take on things...

All three of our girl choices have a nn that we just aren't into for whatever reason.

Jina I agree with if you have a nn prepared then you can avoid the one you don't want. I was dead set against Eleanor being an Ellie or Joseph being a Joey- I just didn't like the diminutive "ee" sound for some reason & DH & all of his brothers got the "y" ending on their names. Anytime anyone(MIL) used either we'd just correct them. Then I went on to use Henry & Lucy-go figure AND we call Penelope Penny. But I still can't stand Ellie or Joey-LOL!!!

I think Della is a natural fit, with Millie being a bit more of a stretch but not out of reach.

I definitely could see Lina if we pronounced the ending as such but with it pronounced 'line' I think it's a stretch. I like Dell or Della but for some reason I like to use an M nn since that's what her name starts with. No nn may be the option here...

That's what I was thinking - to have a nn prepared if one thinks about using Maddie. I'm not much of a nn person really but more of a pet-name we use in our home. Logan is Lo, Corban is Cor but others rarely shorten them. I think Madeline is such a gorgeous name and to shorten it to Maddie seems to cheapen it, IMO. I think we can enforce her full name. I'm just curious as to what I, myself is going to shorten it to because I do like to shorten their names to something 1-syllable.

Thanks Elle! Elle could also be an option but there are lots of those as well and my cousin just had twin girls and one of them is Ella. Not sure how I feel about Mae, I do find it a bit of a stretch. I like Dell but just remembered my sil's name is Danielle and her nn is Deli. Hmm...

No, the boys haven't called her anything but Madeline. I guess if I leave it be a nn may just arise on its own.
