Problem?

I just found out this weekend that my DH's sister and brother-in-law will be naming their baby girl Brooklyn Joann when she is born in the fall. My dilemma is that if we ever have a little girl, her middle name would be Joanna, after my late mother. Joann is MIL's middle name. Would it be weird to have two girls in the family with such close middle names? Knowing my luck I won't ever have a girl and it won't matter, but I have to admit it has been bothering me since they made the announcement.

Thanks for any advice and opinions you may have!

To be honest, I'm just not seeing the problem here. It really seems sometimes as if people LOOK for problems and CREATE problems, without meaning to, of course - when there's just no issue, at all. First, these are just MNs - not unimportant, of course, but not FNs that will be used daily. Second, you have a deeply personal family reason to use Joanna - it's not as if you're trying to copy them! And third, it's your baby to name, and it deserves the best name you can choose. So use the name you love! Be happy! And don't sweat the small things (or in this case, the nonexistent things)! Best wishes.

Not weird at all! My cousin and I share a middle name, and growing up I thought it was fun (until I realized that *everyone's* middle name is Lynn!) I think it's only a problem if it bothers you; it certainly won't bother your daughter.

BTW, my third dd's mn is also Joanna, after dh's grandma Joan :) It's a lovely name!

I guess I am just making something out of nothing. I may never even have a girl, so I shouldn't even worry about it. I guess I was just a little bummed that they are having a girl and I...well I will probably have three boys someday. I was hoping that we would kill two birds with one stone by using Joanna, since it was my mom's name and MIL's mn is Joann. But now that she will have a grandchild with her mn, I guess it doesn't really matter. I will continue to keep Joanna as my mn choice if we ever have a girl, since I too think it is pretty and will honor my mom.

BTW- Jodi, you are my girl name idol! lol I LOVE all of your daughters' names! Firsts and middles!

I would keep Joanna as an option. There are 12 grandkids on my mom's side and 6 on my MILs side. Between those 18, there are

Right now I'm leaning towards "e" girls names for some reason. The top three on my list are Estelle, Elise, and Eloise. I have quite an eclectic mix of favorites. I also like Ruby, Adele, Lucille, Agatha, Miriam...the list goes on lol. I've also considered using my late grandmother's name, which was Ramona. Ramona Joanna doesn't work though, so I think I would have to use one or the other. Can you tell I think about this way too much? lol
