When I was pregnant with my daughter, who will be 4 in September, I had absolutely no problem coming up with my absolute favorite names, about three for a girl and two for a boy, and getting my husband to help me decide which name was going to be her name.

Hi Kate!

Congrats on baby #2! Yes, some people think names should "go" together. What that means, in your situation, is that they would not vote for you to name Della's sister Ekaterina, Persephone, or Stanislava, most likely. They may also not like her brother to be named Balthazar, Holgernes or Belarius. The reason is that she and her sibling would have names that are very different in style. One name may seem more or less interesting, complicated, simple, ethnic, etc. This can be hard to figure out by ourselves, so that is one reason ladies come here for feedback on names that they are considering.

All that said, you may certainly name your child anything you like. There are even plenty of people who disagree that names should "go" together. Many of our ladies feel this way, and get good feedback from the board, as well. They would say that the most important factors are that you and your Dh love the name and that it suits the baby.

I will post a list for you, shortly.

I like Olive with Della (I think slightly of Olive Oyl, but I also think of Olive from "Pushing Daisies" and a nice restaurant here in town, so I see a variety of things here.) I'd pass on Elsa and Nell as being too close, and like Lawson with Della but find Rowan perhaps a bit too trendy to fit (though it IS terribly handsome.) I don't really worry about names matching, but I prefer that nobody's name jars or sticks out as odd from their siblings.

Other ideas:
Ransom (which pops to mind because a friend has a Ransom and a Lawson)
Reuben
Philip
Ferris
Franklin

Pearl
Sylvia
Ruth
Hazel
Flora

Hi there.

Della Iris is gorgeous! Rowan & Lawson are both perfectly nice w/Della imo. There are a couple of 'rules' about sibling names fitting together that Della & Rowan/Lawson don't break. They're something like this:

1. You don't want to have one kid called Seamus & one kid called Giovanni. That's just weird to have such conflicting back rounds.

2. It's kind of awkward to have a kid called Rhyleigh & a kid called Louise. Louise is classy & old fashioned, & Rhyleigh is trendy & the spelling is clearly absurd.

3. You don't want your names to be too rhyming like Della & Ella.

That's all I can think of really. I do think that Elsa & Nell might be a bit close to Della, which is too bad because those are really nice.

Olive works well w/Della. It's not my personal style, because I don't actually think of Popeye, I just think of a martini.

Boy suggestions-

August/Gus

Abel/Abe

Beckett

Calvin/Cal

Everett

Eli

Grant

Graeme

Gray/Grey

Levi

Nolan

Oscar-I don't like suggesting this since it's on my short list, but you can use it if you promise not to exploit it. ;)

Quinn

Ronan

Simon

Silas

Thatcher

Tucker

Wyatt

Girl suggestions-

Ada

Beatrix/Trixie/Bess

Clementine-See Oscar.

Clara

Cora

Frances/Franny

Greta

June/Junie

Jane

Louise

Louisa

Maeve

Pearl

Thea

Willa-Are those too close? I think that the style fits really well w/Della.

Hope this helps!

What do you think about Olivia? It would give you the option of calling DD Olive, Liv, Livvie, Olli, Olivia... without all the Olive oil baggage.

About names and going together a pp already gave great examples. I don't think that boy girl names need to "go together" as much.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only Pushing Daisies fan.

I think Gus and Abe are great however I gave up trying to convince my husband that names like Gus or Abe or Walt or August "Gus", Abraham "Abe" or Walter "Walt" were good names when we were TTC Della.
