Starting to look at names again

And I have nothing! I am not currently TTCing, but I am not preventing either, and the name bug has hit me again. I still like a few of the names from when I was naming Eloise, but nothing really clicks right for me right now.

Now for the basics, we like less common names, if they are in the top 300 it is probably a no. Even the top 500 is iffy, though I will go with a name in that range. No unisex names. I need good G names, because that is most likely the starting letter we'll use. It is to honor my Grandfather George. That being said any name starting with any letter is fine. I'd also prefer not to repeat the name first letter that has been used for my other children, so D and E names are not big contenders.

Middle names will likely be Mira for a girl and Mohan for a boy. Other possible middle names for a girl are Jyoti, Romola, and Parvati. Middle names are Hindi and that won't change.

DS is Desmond Kiran. DD is Eloise Asha. Last name will be pronounced as Single. I am not a fan of S or soft C names with our last name, it is just too much. I won't mine incorporating part of my last name in the first name. I figure it is easier for a girl name then a boy name. The last name is Rosenberg so I was think possibly a Rose name, but I don't like the basic Rose and nothing else has really struck me.

Here is a small list of names we liked when naming DD.

Girls:
Hazel
Morwena
Acacia
Bryna
Georgia (this is new, it is the only George name I like and I am still not sure about it).
Rowena
Cordelia
Iris
Portia
Moira
Maeve
Geneva
Gwendolyn
Millicent

Nothing is really striking me though, and none of them feel like they fit right with Eloise.

Boys:
Emmett
Alastair
Beckett
Griffin/Griffith
Phineas
Finn
Callum
Arthur
Hamish
Henry
Tavish
Ronan
Conall

Not really feeling much for any of my boy names either.

Thanks for any thoughts.

It looks like you want fresh ideas, so I will stick to that. Except I do think Portia is perfect. I also like Acacia and Georgia with your childrens' names. What about:

Averill (I like this with two l's)

Claudia

Corinne

Gillian (a "G" name you may like)

Jessamine

Kerensa

Linnea

Lyra

Reva

Tavia

Zara

About Rose names, I love Rosamund. Also, while I thought about that, I thought of Romilly. I think Romilly Mira is my first choice for you :)

As for a boy:

Barnaby

Brooks

Clifton

Forrest

Linus

Orlando

Raphael

Truman

Thanks for the suggestions:

Averill (I like this with two l's): nms

Claudia: nms

Corinne: hmm possible I think I'll add it to the spreadsheet, thanks.

Gillian (a "G" name you may like): nms I really don't like the sound of this or Jillian for some reason. They just sound wrong to me.

Jessamine: nms

Kerensa: nms

Linnea: I have always really liked this name, I am just not sure that I like this name for me, but I think I'll add it to the spreadsheet.

Lyra: hmm maybe

Reva: nms

Tavia: I like this, DH won't most likely

Zara: I like the name, but it doesn't work for me with my other kids.

About Rose names, I love Rosamund. Also, while I thought about that, I thought of Romilly. I think Romilly Mira is my first choice for you :)

I actually really like Romilly, I don't know if I could get DH on board with though though. Rosalind was the Rose name I was sort of leaning towards, but Rosamund is nice too.

As for a boy:

Barnaby: I love Barnaby, I adore Barnaby. I hate hate hate hate the nickname Barney, I can't get past it to chose this name.

Brooks: nms

Clifton: nms

Forrest: I like it, but it just doesn't sound quite right to me

Linus: to Norwegian for me, always makes me think of peanuts and the founder of linux

Orlando: I love Shakespeare names, just not this one

Raphael: To biblical, we don't do biblical names general, DH doesn't want to use them.

Truman: hmm maybe, adding it to my list.

Did I mention I am very picky? Thanks for the suggestions.

I would use something like Barnes as a nn for Barnaby instead of Barney. Maybe that would help. It's so perfect with your other names (and in general).

Also, iVillage seems to be having tech issues, hence all the "deleted posts" on your thread. I emailed our moderator, and it's happening on other boards, as well. I hope they fix it soon.

Oh I would use Barnes as the main nickname, but the possibility of Barney ending up as the main nickname is just high enough that it makes the name fall off my list.

For instance I thought I could deal with Eloise being called Ellie, so we decided her name worked. It wasn't the nickname I would have wanted her called, but if she ended up called that later on I didn't think it would bother me. Before my DS ended up nicknaming her "ise", my in-laws kept calling her Ellie and I couldn't stand it. I just can't chose a name where I know I will hate the possible nickname, when I have already had issue with a nickname I didn't think I would mind. Especially since as the child gets older they get to chose what they are called, and I just can't do it.

Morwenna was actually from you when we were figuring out Eloise's name. It made our top three, but didn't quite make the final cut, before we found we needed an E name.

My father-in-law would be thrilled...it's what he wanted to name a daughter (they only had boys.)

Thanks for all the suggestions. It is a great list of names.

Girls-

Arwen: I like it but DH feels it is too Lord of the Rings

Anwen: Same as Arwen

Anthea: I like this, but I actually like Althea better. I think I'll add it to the list.

Bronwen: This one is actually on our list, it was our B name if we needed one, though DH likes Bryna better.

Briar: It just doesn't work for me.

Clementine: It just doesn't work for me

Finola: Hmm maybe, I like Fiona, but DH isn't a huge fan, this one might work.

Finuala: nms

Gwyneth: I prefer Gwendolyn to Gwyneth

Greta: It doesn't fit with my other children's name at least not for me.

Gemma: I like the name in the abstract, but there is something about it I just can't get past.

Georgina: I have considered it, I think I like Georgia better, but I'll add it to the list.

Honora: I really like this, but I am not really into virtue names, I thin I'll add it though.

Imogen: DH is not a fan

June: It is my Grandmother's name so we can't use it since she is still living.

Juniper: I really like this name, if I ever had to name a child after my Grandmother this is on the top of my list.

Nell: It feels unfinished to me, I don't like names that seem like nicknames. I do like Eleanor nicknamed Nell, but not with big sister Eloise.

Orla: nms

Pearl: nms

Philippa: I like this, but I am not sure it fits well with Eloise.

Romilly: I am growing more and more attached to this name, not sure what DH would think though.

Tallula: nms

Boys-

Callum: on my list, I'm afraid in the rise in popularity after Twilight though.

Flynn: nms

Gareth: This was actually our second choice for Desmond, it is still on the list, but I am less in love with it now.

Graeme: I love Graeme, but my new baby cousin who was born in January is a Graeme, so I can't use it. This was going to be Eloise's name if she was a boy.

Grey: nms

Hugh: nms

Hamish: I like Hamish, I think it is already on my list, but I'm going to add it if it isn't.

Lachlan: Hmm maybe, adding it to the list.

Leith: nms

Malcolm: I want to love this, but I just can't

Niall: nms

Quinlan: adding to the list

Rafe: it is a nickname name and I don't like Raphael

Ronan: Love this but it doesn't fit with our middle name choice of Mohan. It is on the list though.

Windsor: nms

Thanks for all the suggestions it was a great list.

Eleanor is a bit close to Eloise, but what do you think of Penelope nn Nell? Penelope has so many cute nns like Nellie, Penny, Poppy, & Polly too.

As for Callum, I think that the character on Twilight is Cullen. Callum isn't going anywhere on the SSA charts as far as I know. (Twilight sure does ruin some great names though, doesn't it?!)

I suppose that Rafe is a bit nick-namey. What do you think of Rafferty nn Rafe?
